Im downloading stuff at speeds of 1.9 kb per sec
and its gettin annoyin ive been told the gain on my phone line needs to be turned up
so ive to ring eircom (which i aint lookin 4ward to doin ive heard all the stories)
can any1 give me a number to ring them ??

or any help ??

what speed is your modem conecting at eg 33.6,31.2, 44,333 rtc?

usually around 46.6 lowest to 50.2 highest

its the downloads that are slowest

If you are connecting at those speed your line is fine...you are getting a v90 connection. You are wasting your time getting your line tested.
I'd guess is spring cleaning time for the computer..

hmmm dunno usually keep it pretty clean cept for the dust
well u know its those hard to get stubborn stains
ah i havent done a system scan in a while and ive been puttin off a format since ive got 5 and a half gigs of mp3s on there.


any thing else i cud try ?

Try a defrag...
when you download, the comp has to to write to disk..
If you can get your disk properly organised a large permanent swap file can help..

how much do you have showing up in your sys tray...?

aims,msn,iol connection norton and two sound file icons and at the minute a windows download thats in operation at the mo

ive used msconfig to cut all the crap outa start up and the likes
