HTTP Tunnel

I'm trying to configure the program 'HTTP tunnel' at my work computer in order to get round a firewall. In order to set it up one has to enter the Server IP and the port you want to use.

I thought I had the right info to satisfy this but the program keeps rejecting whatever I enter. So is there a program out there that can tell me for sure what the Server IP is and what port I need to use in order to get this up and running?

    Thanks!

are you currently accessing the net through a http proxy?

I can't say for sure (I'm no expert o this kind of thing) but I'm pretty sure that I am. Would that complicate things?

If you have access to a proxy server you can ssh through this to a unix machine on the outside of the firewall. Then just forward the ports you need back.
    2 problems with this tho.
    1. You need a unix/NT box to ssh to on the internet outside the firewall.
    2. The proxy server needs to support being ssh'ed through.
To do this you'll also need to get hold of the development version of putty SSH client. (The normal version doesn't have an option to use a proxy yet).

I recently found this program called socks2http

which basically sets up a socks5 server on your machine and does somehandshaking with the http proxy

you can get it here: http://www.totalrc.net/s2h/

I've tested it with IRC, WinMX and Kazaa lite (each has an option to use a socks5 server) and they work (a little slowly but at least it's somtin)

I have http tunnel set up in work. We only use a firewall - no proxy. My setup - Server ip is 127.0.0.1 and port is 1080

Basically, it sets your machine up as a socks server

    Works for me :)

Slydice, have you tried the Socks2Http program with Kazaa Lite?

It's basically the same thing, although I was wondering could you use this program to bypass an (ahem) college firewall, so as to use Kazaa Lite? (assuming they've disabled the SOCKS proxy)

you can get a free shell on many servers that is used purely for BitchX/bots.

if you can SSH out of the college (port 22) you'll be sound.
    Get PuTTY (http://frink.nuigalway.ie/learning/downloads/)
you could even screen the bitchx client and leave it connected 24/7

Hi! I've tried 127.0.0.1 & 1080 but no success. I guess this means there's a proxy in there somewhere. As I'm not too comfortable with unix/shells could anyone suggest a windows based way of finding the info and solving this one?

I'll give Socks2Http and TotalRc a try tommorow, but is there a way of somehow finding the Proxy servers IP/Port info and then using that as it is?
