Drove up from Sligo to Dublin last night and I spent an hour in a traffic jam on the way into FU##ING Edgeworthstown!!! I drive through Dublin everyday but this was the worst I've ever seen!! I can't tell you how pissed-off I am with that place in Longford.

Can anyone tell me if this is normal? The traffic in Edgeworthstown I mean, not pissed-off with Longford.

I'd put a fair bet that it was the jam caused by evening mass. Clonard also specialises in gridlock around this time. If you want extreme fun, visit when a local of 90+ dies and they all come down from the hills for the funeral.

Could be worse.. could be Dublin-Galway and getting stuck in Enfield.
Slane deserves a mention as well.

    Kali,

Sligo-Dublin means you get Enfield thrown in for free. Traffic lights on a bypass, stunning bit of traffic management.

ahh yeah forgot you go as far as kinnegad (isn't it?) and then go right... out a few times on the galway road myself.. but rarely up to sligo..

I regularly do this trip. Grew up in Sligo you see.
Enfield is fine now ever since they built that by-pass, sorry I mean something else as no way is that a by-pass when everybody still goes through the village. I'd say the Enfieldonians are happy about that?! ;)

Clonard is incredable sometimes too at mass times. How that church got planning permission for that location I just don't know ;)

But, Edgeworthstown was just incredable last Sunday around 7:30 - 8.30! There must be a way around it? I looked at a map and there's a way via Ardagh -> Crossea -> turn left at Glen Lough and then come back on to the N4 just before Rathowen. Does anyone know about this route? Will it work?

BTW: After an hours wait, we were driving through the village and there parked in the middle of the street was a F##King BUS! Illegal parking or what!
