This Thursday's Album Archive: Peter Gabriel "So" 1986

Back in the early 1970's, Peter Gabriel used to appear on stage as lead vocalist with Genesis in a fox mask and a dress. He was also wont to write songs with titles like "Squonk". Around about 1975 he stopped hanging round with Phil Collins and went off to become a gardener. After tending to his radishes and peas for about eighteen months he decided to go back to the studio and record a solo album. Ten years and four magnificent records later, he finally went global with "So". This album featured three hit singles in Sledgehammer, Big Time and Don't Give Up. Tune in this Thursday and we'll talk you through the genesis (excuse the pun), recording and subsequent release of the album, as well as playing you studio versions, remixes and live versions on the album tracks, as well as the odd b-side. If you thought Peter Gabriel was old-fart coffee-table music, we'll show you the lie o' that too. The Album Archive, Thursday 8pm on Phantom. Music That Matters. Big Time.

    Regards

    Rob
