What software?

    I don't want to start a "what's the best software" debate, but I do want a few recomendations of software for a general machine.

    Some graphics programs. Prob 2, one simple and one advanced.
    Same for audio, editing ect.

    Encoding video stuff (divx and mpeg)

    A few good recomended games.

    I'm going to install win2k tonight and I have access to all this other software free so I thought I would ask for help before I start installing csomething find out it's crap and then install another one.

    I use irfanview for graphics viewing , for graphics editing i use photoshop 6.0 ,

    not too sure on the audio editing ( never needed it ) but i think cooledit 2000 is popular...

    for video encoding - DivX - have a look at for pointers

    games is a big matter of taste - so heres some I played / liked
    - Grand Theft Auto 3
    - WarCraft 3
    - Rune
    - Oni
    - Jedi Knight II
    - ( usual suspects ) Quake III , HalfLife , CounterStrike

    office: ms office 2k or xp
    graphics: macromedia fireworks, adobe photoshop
    web: marcomedia dreamweaver, macromedia flash
    divx: flask
    audio: cubase
    text editing: editplus or ultraedit
    cdr: nero or diskjuggler or ez cd recorder
    other: windows commander, winzip, winrar, winace, norton antivirus, norton speeddisk, etc.
