You can't do Legal Science through Arts in UCC. Also the 'IT' subject there is called Computer Science, it's only available as a minor for 10 credits.

Galway might be a better bet, i'm not sure though

Arts in NUIG would be a better bet by any accounts I've heard.

/me tries to remember when I was picking my subjects..

Ah yes. Bear in mind that I don't know what subjects are in what groups here, so my suggestions may not actually be possible. If you are sure you want to do Legal Science and IT, then that leaves two slots to be filled, and a multitude of possibilities. I think if you have even a remote talent for writing/doing a decent essay then pick Soc and Pol. The first year exam is a joke, you get 20 essay type questions (ten sociology, ten politics) and you only have to do three, if I recall corrrectly. This means you basically only have to do half the course (I did about a 1/20th of it, and bluffed the rest of it with my good writing skills and interest in current affairs etc). I know several people who did it and I'm unaware of anyone who failed it or had any trouble with it. Classical civilisation is another option. Not too hard to pass in first year, and reasonably interesting at times, but it can get quite boring when you have to study pottery etc.

Other than that, a general guide would be to pick what you enjoy. You can't pick english with legal science, actually I have an eerie feeling you can't pick soc and pol with IT, but I could be wrong. Unless you are interested in taking it on, then I'd recommend staying away from languages, they can be hard by comparison to the other subjects. Some of the lesser known subjects like Archaeology seem to be handy for a pass. DO NOT pick psychology if you have no intention of trying to keep it on. It's hard..

I don't know if it's the same these days, but back when I was a first year the places in 2nd year IT were limited, so you needed a decent mark to get into it. Bear this in mind when picking your other subjects, should the worst happen you might end up doing a degree with Legal science and some other subject you picked just to get a pass in. Also, the subjects you pick in first year can still have an influence on your future. If you became interested in teaching in some capacity for instance, it could help to have some suitable subjects studied in your first year-just another small point to note.

There isn't a crazy rush to pick your subjects at NUIG, so you can go try them out before deciding. I can't speak from experience of UCC's Arts degree programme, but it doesn't specialise into two subjects does it? I thought it was more of a general degree?

    In UCC Arts (CK101):

Legal Science, or any derivation thereof, is not available.

Information Technology is available as "Introduction to Computers", but is only as a minor in second and third year.

    With a nod to subjectivity:

If by easy you mean a subject where you can just read one textbook and comfortably pass: Archaeology

If by hard you mean boring and far too much information crammed into too little time plus impossible continuous essay titles: Studies in Psychology.

Don't know much bout UCC/NUIG, but in UCD the easy ones to pass in 1st arts are stuff like information studies, that sort of thing. Also consider doing maths or stats if you've done honours maths in the leaving, cos the first year courses are really easy especially in arts. For the whole IT thing i reckon maths or stats would be useful, but that's just my 2c.
