Was it wise for Bertie to appoint Rambo Burke as Foreign Minister 1997?

    Some say that the main reason why Bertie appointed Ray Burke to his front bench was to unite a party which had been badly fragmented by Haughey and then Raynolds.
    Others say that there must have been a pay-off somewhere along the way for Rambo to get back in

    What do you think?

    Ray Burke is Kuhl. I mean he did what any other self respecting irish man with power would have done in his post. Its the idiots that turned a blind eye who the fingeres should remain pointed at. Down with Teflon up with flameable

    When he was appointed - the opposition did not make a meal of it either. Hindsight is 20/20 vision. We also can be wise after the fact.

    The most interesting person in all this was Albert Reynolds. He did not appoint Burke. Yet he was hounded by sections of our media. I think it was shameful of our media for hounding Albert for using words like "Crap".

    Albert - was very much under rated both in the downfall of CJH & the peace process.

    Short of Burke having something on someone important
    Ahern was just being his usual "don't rock the boat" self.
    He and Burke not to mention Haughey are all part of the same North Dublin FF clique.

    It'll be interesting to see if Rambo comes out fighting and takes anyone down with him.
