Checking your box

I recently purchased a second hand Pace 2500 on Ebay. I was told it was 2nd hand and off-contract. However, I'm not one to believe what those e-bay sellers say in their item descriptions. The person I bought from had a seller rating of 150 odd and only one negative, but you can never be sure...

Anyway, my question: Do Sky have a facility where an honest person can phone up and give the serial number of the box they bought and have it checked against their database to see that it's legit?

The last thing I want is to get a card for this box and then be told by the card people (Sky or BBC) that the box is still on contract or even worse, stolen. I'd rather know first.

Do people have experiences or have heard of people that have bought boxes on E-bay that turned out to be dodgy?

Why not ring their customer service number and see? Can't hurt to try? Its not as if you have to give them your name/address etc...

Given Sky's usually extremely unhelpful customer service, I wouldn't say you'll get much joy out of them. Half the time they seem to completely disown the fact that they even operate in Ireland!
