i wouldnt say cry to any of these really (bar the bjork one.. that comes very close) but they are hella emotional and definitely touch a nerve somewhere.

bjork - come to me (hits a very very personal note)
flaming lips - do you realize
spacemen 3 - come down softly to my soul
    pink floyd - hey you
beachboy soundtrack (its a japanese show btw) - fly like a mountain bird (easily my favourite instrumental track of all time.. and pretty moving to me)

theres probably a few more if i bothered to look at my cds.. but couldnt be arsed.. :)

i'd have to agree with Playground Love. Having read a lot about Suvla Bay, the Band Played Waltzling Matilda (esp the Pogues version) is another. I know theres a few more, I'll try to think of them tonight.

nobody's mentioned "blue" by joni mitchell! the whole album is full of songs this thread is looking for.. also check out

simon & garfunkel - bridge over troubled water
neil young - after the gold rush
neil young - tell me why
    coldplay - we never change
the strokes - hard to explain
counting crows - raining in baltimore
    stevie ray vaughan - lenny
    aphex twin - nannou2

i'd reccomend from the album blue, by joni mitchell, the songs "blue", "a case of you", "the last time i saw richard", "little green"..

btw, syd_vicious, why the fuck do you keep saying "this is syd vicious speaking"?

    This is Syd_Vicious speaking...

The reason I keep saying that is because I want to stand out from the rest of the crowd & it makes you pay attention to what I'm saying because that is the first thing you will notice

    You happy :p

    This has been Syd_Vicious speaking...

excellent song. another one for me, doesn't bring tears close to my eyes or anything but it's by the Bee Gees. i'm not sure what it's called but it has the line "i started a joke" and was done live for a HBO special

another would be the song Neil Young did for the Philadelphia film. anyone know what's that called

Anything by a woman called stina nordenstam...especially dynamite,...she's a swedish artist with the voice of an angel... she' a complete enigma, having given eight interviews in as many years...over the course of the last 2 years i have developed an unhealthy obsession with this woman..its definately depressing, but it got to a stage where i didn't like not listening to her, just generally like...ive been trying to stop listening to her, for the good of my mental health, but im somewhat addicted...i have never heard such a beautiful voice...it can take a while to get into some of her stuff...but its worth it...just dont let it get to the stage that im at now

"It's me and you now and you're not on my side
A night for planets, planes or souls to collide
They say that light-years might go by till they do
It takes a desert to need someone like you
Cut me dead, send me out blindfolded
Watch me take up the glove
This is what I have been trained for
I think I am in love"
