PDAs... and where to buy em?

When I purchase DVDs I usually do it online, because I can get good value.

What's the story with PDAs? Are there any decent sites where I can buy a PDA which will work here (Ireland) and get good value to boot?

Recommendations and comments greatly appreciated. Thanks

im also looking for a PDA.

I'd be after one where you could MSN & IRC out and about.

Do any PDA's support GPRS if you stick a sim card into them?

The 2 basic classes of PDA are based on the OS, Microsoft PocketPC (Powerful, but software selection limited, and hardware needs to be more powerful) and PalmOS, (much more widespread, millions of great software titles, and easy to use). There are aslo Linux PDAs now appearing.

I use a Sony N770c (now off the market) which uses PalmOS. The newer Sonys are much more powerful, and on the whole are more powerful, sleeker and have much better screens that the Palm brand.

AFAIK, the only PDA that can use GPRS are the XDA (MS) from O2 and the Handspring Treo (PalmOS).

I use a Bluetooth connection to my T68i to get a GPRS connection to the PDA for email, internet access etc. Sony have released a GPRS stick to slot into the memory stick slot on the Clie, not yet available outside Japan.

Try here . They do a lot of phones/PDA's and if you ask on the wireless forum, some people have actually purchased from them. They would also be better people to ask about GPRS.

As they are in the UK, everything bought there should work here (theoretically).

    TD.

If I want to buy some PDAs here (Ireland).. am I stuck with the usual crappy dixons, argos, computerstore etc.

or are there any specialist outfits or decent discount places?

I find it just takes so long for new electronics products to be released here, that it's much quicker and easier to order online from abroad. I found Amazon the best when I bought my clie, and indeed some coleagues of mine have found similar for PDAs recently also. They've got a very reassuring no-quibble money back guarantee.

I assume that means I would have to purchase from amazon.co.uk, rather than .com ???? I'm thinking here about any power plugs and adapters etc. from a charging point of view.

    Any recommendations?
