United once again showed class and experience to get rid of a troublesome Olympiakos in the premier competition in Europe. Top of the table, unbeaten and in great form with half the team to return.

Class showed through in the end after a small hiccup but now we can sit back and relax and watch other teams sweat on other results.

Veron and scholes showed pure their world class to get 2 great goals, unlucky not to have one by at least one more but who needs it, a win is a win.

And who said we were in decline.

Fair play to Newcastle, delighted to see them win at last in what was a decent game. Poor Italians did not know what hit them when they were been hammered with tackles, rolling around the place, typical from them I suppose.

Also AC Milan are on fire at the minate, dark horse now for this competition.

You could say he is passionate, thought he was gonna eat the flag when he scored. I thought that taken the jersey off was a bookable offense??

Pizzaro got a cracker for munich, but Dida was at fault.

Another Win for Utd yet everyone still writes us off

When you think who was missing from the team at the end of the game :

    Ferdinand
    Giggs
    Beckham
    Keane
    Butt
    Van Nistellrooy

I think that says it all :)

Missing the baby faced assasin and Brown as well.

Still def is ****e, larry white played their man onside for the 2nd goal, great finish though

Taking off the jersey is not a bookable offence. If you take off the jersey and a message is revealed then you can be booked/sent off and hit with a disrepute charge.

Not gonna rain on your parade but ....

    - Ye got one of the easiest groups in the competition
    - Forlan is still muck in front of goal
    - Ferguson admitted that giving fortune and chadwick a run
    nearly backfired
    - Every team gets injuries

but still fair play for qualifying for next round , now ye can hopefully concentrate on your league form .....

Sir Alco nearly got what he deserved by arrogantly taking off Beckham and Giggs when they were 2-0 up - the Olympiakos scorers just strolled through the United 'defence' for both goals. Shame about the late winner.

I wouldnt say he was arrogant to take them off after all we only needed a draw,we were two nil up and it was a good chance to give Fortune (South African International) and Chadwick (England U21 International) A Run.

As for having the weakest Group Olympiakos beat Juventus both home and away last year and bayer got to the final last year, not that easy...only made to look :)

Have to agree that we made it look easy.

If you compare like with like

Valencia - Leverkusen - Both involved in Euro finals - very similar
Basle - Maccabi - Both have cause the odd shock
Spartak - Olympiakos - neither have done anything in competition

Taken the above then scousers are in an easy group.
    - Forlan is still muck in front of goal
A bit of a donkey alright
    - Ferguson admitted that giving fortune and chadwick a run

It did alright, but we only needed a point.

Valencia are on a different Par to Leverkeusen considering Leverkeusen sold most of their star performers from last year

Basle would be a lot better than Maccabi ( Israeli teams are generally muck and don't even get home fixtures )

I thought Olympiakos were better than Spartak

I admit that United did what they had to do ..

Liverpool still need to qualify , but I would definitely think that Uniteds group overall is easier than Liverpools

Who did they sell??? Ballack, yes but who else of note? no one.

They still ahve 10-12 of the squad that got to the final last year, and believe it or not thoses players havent become bad just because Ballack has left.

I thought Olympiakos were better than Spartak

They did nothing til Giggs and Becks went off, not too sure was it a mental block but if they ran at us all nite then they would have caused way more trouble, gave us too much respect.

Olym would be seen to be better than Spartak but not much difference.

But as u said the job is done... now for Basle to do the job and we will be well sorted :p

Somebody should tell Chelsea all Israeli teams are crap, because it was an Israeli team knocked them out of the UEFA cup last season. So Lizard King with you extensive knowledge of Swiss football can you tell me when the last time Basle played in Europes premier competition was, I cannot remeber, but seeing as Swiss teams are so much better then the Israelis I though you could tell me.

Ze Reberto was sold last season the Bayern, a freebie as far I can remember.

Basle got rid of Celtic this season, even though they were ****e in both matches.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,599 ✭✭✭LizardKing

    Chelsea Schmelsea

I never said I'd extensive knowledge of Swiss Football nor did I say ALL Israeli teams were crap , I said Generally MUCK

I just pointed out my opinion , which is that from seeing Basle and Muccabi , I'd say Basle were better , you're welcome to have a different opinion - BTW I think basle were in Uefa Cup last year

Ballack was there main star they are nothing even close to what they played like last year - IMHO.

As yop says Celtic were knocked out by Basle

Where is Claudio Lopez and Mendieta for Valencia? I suppose they weren't star performers either?

Basle are on par with Maccabi because they have achieved just as much. If you think otherwise then I'd like some evidence to back that up.

Olympiakos are better than Spartak indeed.

There are no "easy" groups in the Champions league.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,503 ✭✭✭Makaveli

Valencia have players like Aimar and Carew doing the jobs that Lopez and Mendieta left behind.
    Bayer have brought in who?

Valencia have faired better in Europe over the past years than Leverkusen.

    Valencia: la Liga Position 4th / 20
    Leverkusen: Bundesliga Position 13th / 18

You're right though, there are no easy groups.

    Carew

Sorry now but he is pants!! He is no where near Lopez or Mendieta.

League positions means nothing in Champ league, look at Barca, so you matching of league pos is irrelevant to be honest;)

Firstly , from what I saw IMO Valencia played much better football than Leverkusen .

Basle have not achieved much as Maccabi have not too , however from what I saw Basle have gotten results in there group i.e holding Liverpool a team who have achieved a lot , and also holding Valencia , a team who have achieved a lot. Maccabi have won 1 game , Basle have won 1 and drawn 2.

I never said there were easy Groups - I did say IMO United had an easier group than Liverpool - I also think Newcastle have the hardest group of all the English clubs .....

Could you back this up with proof????

Just cause liverpool have been piss poor so far in the champions league doesnt mean there group is harder.

The only way to prove this is for United and pool to swap groups! :D

Lads we ain't gonna come to a conclusion who has the easier to be honest, it is impossible.

We can ping pong this arguement for the next 6 months and we ain't going to come to a conclusion.

So we will leave it that we both have "tough" groups just that we did a better job of it than ye! :p

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,599 ✭✭✭LizardKing

The first English team to beat a russian side in Moscow hmm... Piss Poor.

I don't wanna get into a slanging match , you have your opinions and I've mine , I don't need to back up my opinions with Proof as I said I came to the opinions from watchin the games and how I rated the Teams. Obviously you have different ratings which is fine ...

United have done the job so far in Europe , which is probably down to there more recent vast experience in Champions League - However Liverpool are just happy to be back in the Top European competition and are happy to be Top of the Premier League - I would say though that the next stage will separate the men from the boys and then we'd be able to see real "Tough" groups :)

  • Moderators, Home & Garden Moderators, Regional Midwest Moderators, Regional West Moderators Posts: 16,724 Mod ✭✭✭✭yop

Ya, the 1st group stage is very hard to judge, if someone told me that Bayern would be out (nearly) and that Basle would in contention then I would have laughed.

It is like the first few rounds of the fa cup, smaller teams play out of their skin.

As u said the next round will separate a lot, that is if ye make it :p:p:p

Well considering Utd have been to at least the quater finals the last six years in a row not to mention winning it in 1999 :) i'd say we already are the men hence no need for trying to seperate :D

Agreed Utd. are my favourites from all the English Clubs especially considering the finals are in Old Trafford.

I'd love to see Keane lifting the Cup , if Liverpool fail to ... :)

    *falling off his seat*

So you are more of a football fan more than a pool fan??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,599 ✭✭✭LizardKing

    I'm a Liverpool Fan , I'm also realistic

I think United have a better Pedigree at the moment in the Champions League than Arsenal , Liverpool or Newcastle..

They've shown over the last few years that they can progress far into the competition. something other english clubs have not done

If it came down to it - I'd love to see liverpool play united and beat them , but its unlikely ( that they'd be pitted against eachother )

The longer the English teams stay in the competition the better it is for us fans , cos the Utd. boys can be up for whoever Liverpool / Arsenal are playing against + the pool fans can be up for A.B.U but as I say , it'd be nice to see an Irishman lifting the trophy :)

( even though he plays for Utd. and is not playing for national team ) :D

  • Moderators, Home & Garden Moderators, Regional Midwest Moderators, Regional West Moderators Posts: 16,724 Mod ✭✭✭✭yop

Fair fucs to ya. I agree about your point about if the english teams are involved it will always keep the rivals shouting!
I think United have a better Pedigree at the moment in the Champions League than Arsenal , Liverpool or Newcastle

Arsenal still have more of a chance of than us to win it, we have to many donkeys playing for us at the minate.

whats this? Liverpool and utd fans co-existing in harmony i feel disgusted you two should be ashamed of yourselfs :D
