The ODTR is also responsible for the regulation of the Airwaves....in between the intensive bouts of Ratcatching. Here is an interesting pointer as to how their equivalent in the US , known as the FCC is minded to Liberalise those same airwaves.

    As their head said
"Nevertheless, we are still living under a spectrum management regime that is 90 years old."
    "

Yellum posted an interesting link to a more detailed version of the 90 year old argumentHere a few days back.

The key point to note here is that if he deregulates slabs of Airwaves in the US, the same kit will be available here, cheaply, within a year or so.

    MMMMMMMM

The FCC's spectrum task force officially announced its report yesterday. The actual document should be released soon.

Dan Gilmor expresses his interest too:

once the FCC allows it the equipment will rapidly materialise and will equally rapidly drop in price....economies of scale and all that.

this is what happened with 802.11b wireless

that is what will happen with Mesh radio in the next 2 years

the ODTR may as well accept it and run with it, they certainly will not be able to stop it.

From my own limited and other corkWan peoples experiences with those in the wireless section of the ODTR they seem progressive enough, even with the massive shadow that EU regulations cast.

So really they could follow suit if the fcc nails it down and manufacturers follow.
