    Hi,

I was just poking thru my temp folder and I saw that it was 2+gigs in size. Is it safe for me to delete everything in here and not screw up my computer? I notice that a hell of alot of files have the '.tmp' extension so mebbe they're not being used nemore.

    Tnx.

Safest way is to delete everything older than one day in it.

Tho i was always unsure about the folders in there (xp pro) so i only deleted the ones that were in englsih.

    Can they be deleted ?

I've never had a problem deleting anything from the temp folder, it is just a temporary folder :)
As has been said, if you're that worried just backup the folder to another location, then delete it.

Dave lives with me so I will make sure he eats a hat if it breaks your computer which it won't.

In File click Show Information and click More beside Program Version Information (if it shows) it could tell you quite a bit.

When it's got the extension .tmp it's just sitting there and not being used by your computer. Perfectly safe to delete, unless you renamed it yourself, which I doubt. Use that prog that Mike said and you might find out the files original name and type. Assuming thats what your prog does Mike.

While on the subject I just wanted to tell yous, though I'm sure a lot of you already know, that theres a directory called content.ie5 whos content you can also delete. It's just a load of graphics from web sites you will have picked up over time. It's not the normal cache of graphics that disk cleanup will delete for you.

Somone may have said this but I didnt read all the posts.

The files in the temp folder are only used by applications currently running and as such are safe to delete.

If you have a program running, such as photoshop, it may stop you deleting some files as its currently using them.

Close all programs and delete everything from the temp folder, its perfectly safe.

My temp folder is always empty, Its just a waste of space to leave files in it.

The Temp folder in Windows is where the operating system and running programs keep temporary code that is used to open specific files, almost every application creates Temp files but they should also get rid of them when it is finished with them, so It's perfectly safe to delete anything from the Temp folder.
If it's causing you a problem with space on your root partition you can redirect the temp files to another temp folder on a different partition using your environment Variables Tab in system properties
