Just looking at a points table and saw a D in a A-level subject is worth 100 points!!

Anyone care to explain what makes A levels so hard ? Like if someone who sits them gets 100 for a D they must be damn near impossible ! ?

That'd have something to do with the fact that people in the UK only sit 3 subjects for their A-Levels. So if you get 3 D's you only get 300 points

you only do 3 A levels and i think they're a little more specialised than the subjects we'd do at leaving cert level.

A levels are now split into 2 exams as well (AS level and A2 level)
and in a higher level, as daveirl said to 1st year collage (and in some subjects abit above) you can also do different subjects such as Psychology, Law and most languages.

From the sounds of it tis alot easier. 3 subjects and they only go into first year of college standard. Wish I knew about em 3 years ago :(

Well it's not as simple as that, considering we have 4 years in our degrees and their degrees are packed into 3 years.
A level's are much harder than the leaving cert, even if there are only three of them.

And you have to remember, it also goes on your personal statement and your academic reference, whether you get into college. I think it's a better system than the CAO!
