I gave this puzzle to some friends and now they're all very pissed off coz I can't remember the answer. We got it in Corp. Bus. If anyone thinks they know it PLEASE let me know.

Above are 4 men buried up to their necks in the ground.
They can not move so can only look forward.
Between A and B is a brick wall which cannot be seen through.
They know that between them are 4 hats, 2 x black and 2 x white, but they do not know which colour they are wearing.
In order to avoid being shot one of them must call out to the executioner the colour of their hat. If they get it wrong, everyone will be shot.
They are not allowed to talk to each other and have 10 minutes to fathom it out.

    After 1 minute:

    Q. Which one of them calls out?

    Q. Why is he 100% certain of the colour of his hat?

This is not a trick question.
There are no outside influences or other ways of communication. They cannot move and are buried in a straight line. So A & B can only see their respective sides of the brick wall, C can see B and D can see B & C.

The mere mention of black and white hats is sure to get Hugh in here . . .

It was C, because D who has a black hat can see B and C but they have white and black hats so D either has a black or white hat, so he cant call out anything. C, however can see the hat in front of him, which is white. C knows that, if C had a white hat a well, D would have called out and saved them. But he didn't so C knows that his hat is black

Why would four guys let themselves be buried in the ground?
Why would someone build a brick wall seemingly in the middle of nowhere?
What type of hats were they wearing?
How do we know that the executioner wouldn't have killed them anyway?
    Was it raining?
I was the second gunman on the grassy knoll.
Did the four men like cheese?
    Were any of them Polish?
Why weren't they in a Volkswagen?
    What's that smell?
    Is it you?
    Did you Fart?
    You did, didn't you?
I won't be mad if you say you did.
    You did, didn't you?
Come on now, you can tell me?
    Was it you?
    It was?
SWEET J****S, WHAT DID YOU EAT THIS MORNING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I kow that this message was irrelevant, but who cares?

I'm about halfway through and still trying to follow it.

    Bazookatone:
They didn't allow themselves to be buried in the ground. They were about to be executed.
They built the wall so they couldn't see the guy on the other side.
They were wearing black and white pointy hats.
The executioner is not a liar.
    It might have been raining.
I gotta go now so I'll answer the rest of your questions later.

Its very likely, who doesn't like cheese.
Possibly, the soviets and nazis were bastards for executing people.
If they were in a Volkswagon they would have been german and you dont execute prisoners where they're captured, you interrogate them and then condemn them to death

My goodness, I remember doing that in Financial Markets two years ago, but I don't remember anything we did in work terms, although I'm sure I have a whole folder of it somewhere.

In any case, it doesn't matter who shouted, since if they went to the trouble of burying them, they most likely aren't going to let them go for solving a puzzle.

oooh, Financial markets 2 years ago, i did that. Who might you be?

So, are certain African countries, the US, and Middle Eatern areas bastards? America do it almost every day.

I think you misunderstand me. I'm talking about executions on the scale of Oradour-sur-glane and certain towns on the eastern front

(Note: It said Financial Markets but it was really more like Economics with loads of videos in.)

As I've said about 3.1415926... times since coming here, I'm Éamon Gaffney. Let's see, I'd have been 13 in 2000.

Short, overdilligent, hung around with Philip "pay attention", God forgive my soul.

Am I in anyway similar now you ask? Oh no. Except for the overdilligence.

I don't remember you, Éamon eile, but I remember Fionnuala, vaguely.
