    ^^ thats the spec, now i really wanna get the right mobo, btw all being ordered from komplett.ie except the case;

    my query is that is the mobo i picked out good ? i have heard bad storys about the SiS <-- i dont even know what it is, should i be looking for an I845E or an I845G or even I845GE;
    all mobo's from my p4 are here;

    http://www.komplett.ie/k/kl.asp?AvdID=1&CatID=10&GrpID=10&t=1403&l=2

    id appritiate of somebody could tell me if i should change anything but most of all what mobo i should get instead of this or is it in fact fine, and maybe explain generally SiS and I845E (ie) not give me links to sites like HEXUS and tomshardware ect

    (ps) i was thinking of maybe a Radeon 9700 instead of the gf4ti4600

    thanks!!

    the i845pe chipsets for the p4 are the best ones to get really. bit more expensive tho

    SIS chipsets for the p4, in my experience have been very good. This contrasts with my previous experience of sis chipsets from the socket 7 days, which were slow at best, and horribly unstable. I think the sis 645dx chipset is pretty decent, and seemed to have good driver support as well. However recent bad experience with the sis 745 chipset for athlon xp has made me a bit more wary. The drivers were unable to provide ata/100 dma support for the hard drives, and the machine wasn't rock solid. Since intel now have a good chipset for ddr333, (i845 PE ) and they have worked on performance as well, I think its worth paying extra for the stability and general lack of hassle.

    The asus i845PE boards are stupidly expensive, I can see why you went for the SIS. Its stupid because asus are only paying maybe 10-15 dollars extra for the chipset, but charging 50-60 more for the board.

    I'd go for the MSI 845PE MAX2, which is a very reasonable 135 euro. €142 with onboard lan. MSI are a high quality manufacturer, not quite ASUS reputation wise, but they are reliable and full featured.

    Oh ya, you should go for the ATI R9700 if at all possible, they are considerably faster than the ti4600.

    but the SiS board i had picked out had 8x support, wouldnt this make it a better choice or do u think that the stability and reliabilty of it would make it not a good choice ?

    the mobo u picked out, MSI 845PE MAX2 mainboard S478/533mhz
    I845PE, ATA/100, ATX, USB2.0, DDR333

    ^^ it says under Speeds (Mhz) 3.06ghz and Higher

    http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?action=info&p=27986&t=1403&l=2&AvdID=1&CatID=10&GrpID=10&s=pl

    although on the asus site on a similar P4PE mobo it says;

    The P4PE socket 478 motherboard is the world's first solution able to support the next-generation P4 processor up to 3GHz and beyond and Intel Hyper-Threading Technology.

    http://www.asus.com.tw/mb/socket478/p4pe/overview.htm

    so will those P4PE mobo's support the p4 2.4ghz "northwood" chip i have picked out?

    would the "Enermax PSU ATX 350W (P-4)" hold enuff power and a little extra for all the above components, or would i need a 400W psu ?
