I know bmw are screwing around with their model numbers these days, not always matching up to the engine size. So I'm gonna assume that the 316i actually has an 1800cc engine, if it doesn't then 125 looks like a lot for a 1.6 bmw.

    Kayos,

I dont care about the speed,I dont care about the bhp.

I just dont want ****e like that about me or my cars posted on a public forum.

I couldnt care less if you claimed it had 400bhp,telling the world you were a passenger in it while it was alledgedly being driven at warp speed is what concerns me.

The internet is no longer anonymous, hell you're the IT guy you of all people should know.I dont need or want the attention....

What year 316i was that? I've owned the "aerodynamics of a house" model (1990)which at a push hits 115 and driven the later 316i's none of which can hit 125! 320i's on the other hand can hit 125 easily enuff :D

Oh and I would like to add yis are all irresponsible gits.... *cough*

T'was an early 90's E36 model , and got her chipped in GB, just stating the indicated speed on the speedo(maybe slightly inaccurate( upto 3% maybe?)) but the scooby claimed the same, so must have been fairly accurate :)

Here's a link that shows its possible for those that doubt it...
The chip tuners claimed top speed is 208km/h or 130 mph!

    crx are the biz...

you still got yours? are you in crx-uk?

I was but not anymore. No some twat crashed into the side of it and the car was broken into on my drive. Repairs were going to be 3k (only honda would touch it) and then the renewal came in at 3k so I said enough already.

Couldn't really find a decent CRX as a replacement and theres no new cars I liked at the time. Had to buy a micra as a replacement as the sister was seling it cheap. 3yrs old with 17k But I couldn't face driving it so I gave that to the gf to drive and I'm driving her ancient fiesta . I only drive for 15mins in a straight line to work and have to park in a supermarket everday (our office is beside it) so theres no point getting anything better at the moment.

Wondering what I'll eventualy get to replace it. Most cars feel lifeless to drive after the CRX. Maybe I'll start a new thread about that! Most fun cars to drive

Ok, and i dont mean to contest you on that but seriously, how long did it take you to get up to that speed, a week, we are talking a 990 cc car, that is a bit of a tall order even if you were going down hill at the time.

my claim to shame was approx 140 in BMW 330 on the autobahn, i have to say the road system over there is somthing else, you dont even know you are speeding which is quite good when you can speed but not great when there is restrictions.

Didn't doubt you... much!! Had considered a turbo kit at one point for my own, but the fact I had alot of speeding tickets common sense over-rode my need for speed... Although hope to be getting a chipped 525i after xmas :D

This is my list.some aren`t fast top speeds but quarter miles are better

    1. Corvette 178mph in the states
    2. Camero SS 35th anniversary 160mph
    3. Dodge Dart Gt 10.29 1/4 mile @ 126.8mph
    4.Bmw 328i coupe 125 mph
5.Seat cordoba sport 115mph on the limiter

Any one who reckons they got over 100mph out of a 1.0ltr or 1.2ltr must have had a good hill and gale force wind behind them.
And as for that suzuki swift story!!!!!Yeah thats an urban legend

Well the highest speed I've driven at is 130 mph in a subaru,

Been a passenger while testing in the following cars,

Ford Escort WRC, (driven by Frank Meaghr)
    Subaru WRC,
    Ex Bertie Fisher Subaru,

as any rally fan will know all the above are restricted to about 120 mph but testing these on irish roads is some experience, the acceleration and handling of these machines is unreal,

Thes joys of been part of a rally team

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,888 ✭✭✭nanook

a friend of mine is into the rallying in a big way, has an escort WRC and a gravyard of Manta's. But if you like the Subaru and Escort there is a rally school (i am not naming them for advertisement) in monaghan that gives you a mark II escort 2.2 on the back and a 2 l turbo Scooby for the day to have fun with.
Recommend it to anyone who is intereasted

They have just aquired a Metro 6R4 :D & a Auto quattro  I went to that rally school & found it excellent, only did a half day though as I had to drive home afterIt was great fun in a 180 bhp rwd escort.. keep 'em sideways!!! The instructor eggs you on, theres no holding back, I nearly turned the escort over & all he did was laugh & told me to go harder! (it's his car!) Do it & you'll be grinning 4 ages

Bo Duke- 110mph uphill (slightly) in a 1.2 Punto with three people + luggage.

    Fastest I've been:
110+ on a back road on the back of a Honda VFR800
132ish backin off the acceleration so we wouldn't frighten the ppl we were passin. What makes it better is there was five of us in it and it weighs over 2t not including fuel! We had a full tank. It's also only a four speed auto! It's also an '87. We would probably've hit between 145 and 150 before runnin out of road!!!
    :D:D:D
