I got my delivery from CD-wow last week. I ordered 'Once Upon a Time in America' and 'City of the Lost Children'. They were cheap enuf and delivery was quick.

Both DVD's looked really cheap and photocopied. I surfed around and found that 'Once Upon a Time in America' has not been released on DVD and that the cover on 'City of the Lost Children' was totally different to the cover I saw on Amazon.

There was also very little menu options just the basic chapter selection.

Does anyone have an opinion please.

Well, after doing a search for the region 2 version of 'Once Upon a Time in America' Collectors Edition - on http://play.com it shows up as being temporarily out of stock.

That indicates to me that it has been released.

I had heard that cdwow mostly sell region 4 dvds? Which may in some cases a bit down on features and have different packaging.

Sounds identical to a rip-off copy of Attack of the Clones my sister brought me back from Thailand.

Clearly a camcorder in the cinema job - photocopied covers, no features bar a very basic scene select and a very substandard picture.

Me thinks you might have been fleeced. I'd consider going to the guards.

PS: Just looked up "The City of Lost Children" on CDWow and Blackstar. Blackstar have the Region 2 release with extras including a photo gallery and filimographies. CDWow have a "Region 0" (i.e. not regionally encoded) disk with "interactive menus and scene selection".

Can anyone tell me whether any major distributors actually release Region 0 disks? Apart from porn that is...

Ive bought a number of DVDs from CD WOW, they are mostly region 4 and have been perfect.

Im sure you can tell from the quality of picture and sound if they are legit.

If in doubt, I would get back onto cd-wow and discuss the problem with them first.

Mountjoy Mugger - What your search in play.com came up with was 'Once upon a time in China and America'. Different film.

Kix. My 'City....' has only got the chapter selection and the play movie option. I think they might have made a copy of the DVD from the real DVD hence the crapy menu option. Perhaps that's why everything is soooo cheap. How can I check the real audio and video output from the DVD??

I should have checked the 'Once... America' on Blackstar before I ordered from CD-wow but I got carried away as it's my fav. film.

Once Upon A Time In America was availible on play for a short time. One of my mates got it (£16.99 was too rich for my blood). Anyway, I think the Region 2 DVD got pulled, reasons I dont know.

The copy of Once Upon a Time in America that you have appears to be the Brazilian edition (or, at least, you can buy it at dvdbrazil.com). The copy of City of Lost Children is the Australian edition (the 'M' on the front of the box is the Australian rating).

CD-wow are a pretty reputable supplier - they don't sell bootleg discs, although they sell a lot of the sort of sh1tty imports that they can get hold of cheap ;)

    Hope that helps.

That region 0 is probably the Hong Kong release (a fair few Hong Kong releases are not encoded =R0) of the film which CDWOW tend to have along with R4's & R1's. Given they have a very good rep I would doubt it is a bootleg.
