I couldn't really understand this story, especially when I saw on the TV that a 106 year old had her birthday yesterday and that there is also a 109 year old.

"Ireland's oldest woman is to be laid to rest in her family grave at Aglish, Co Waterford, today, having died yesterday at 105.

One of nine children, Mrs Rita Duffy was born in Ballinacourty, Villierstown, Co Waterford, on February 27th, 1897.

An active woman, she was very involved in the community and even into her nineties was winning Tidy Town Competitions for her garden and flower beds. "

Wow, I'm only 16 and that even seems like a extremely long time, I can't fathom living 100 years.

    Long time indeed.

GF's grandfather died a few years ago aged 105. Never met the guy as it was before Anne and I were going out. Turns out he was in Michael Collins' class in national school. Brought history nearer somehow (I'm fairly sure that there must have been an equivalent who went to Bruree school around 1887). Most of my grandfathers family and immediate ancestors seem to have hit 100-odd before dying - I suppose that's one tradition that's likely to disappear with my siblings and me, lazy non-exercisers that we all are.

You're right Victor, that story makes feck all sense if there are at least two older people about.

For example in 1926 a thirty year old male could expect to live a further 38.4 years = 68.4 years
