    Hi all,

Ok I am looking at BlackICE for my PC's and im wondering if anyone has used or is still using it on their PC. Does it do all its supposed to do and is it actually worth buying @ $39.99 / $29.99?

I have never used that program myself.
I think it provides a minimal amount of security for your PC, I wouldnt buy it personally...perhaps you should download a demo of it, try it first.

Guess it depends on what you want. I recommend having a look through the following articles and reviews. A google wouldn't hurt either.

    The entertaining GRC[sucks] series:

Last time I looked at it, it didn't filter outbound connections, which in this era of spyware, report home and whatnot is insane.

Right now I'm happy with Zone Alarm for what it does.

I realy don't think they are hackers, is only the security alert to TCP/IP responses from different networks and servers.

Do you really think "HACKERS" are trying to access your Home PC?

Any way BlackIce = 30 euros...
I will go for Zone Alarm instead.

Try sygates personal firewall. Tis free and works fine for me at home. Can be got from here http://www.simtel.net/product.download.mirrors.php?id=56422

Dunno if black ice is as bad as it used to be but it sucked ass last time I had the misfortune of encountering it.

I think zone alarm had a security flaw in their free version they was calling a feature up until recently or it may still be waiting on a patch.

Remember that offering or spreading warez on this forum is not allowed. I've deleted one suspicious post on this thread, but in future bans may be handed out.

Yah and there was some problems with Zone Alarm 3. However ZoneAlarm 4 is out now for $50 and is great only for its "Alert Advisor" which fails to identify most apps even Ezula and Gator.

It would be nifty to have an implementation of ipfilter, ipfw or even pf for Windows. They have very powerful rules-based packet filtering; I use ipfilter on a freebsd box here which acts as a gateway, it's literally fire and forget :)

There was a package called wipfilter that was supposed to provide ipfilters functionality for windows, but it seems to have disapeared without a trace.
