Music has become a HUGE part of Boards.ie with about half the people signing up indicating that its an interest or the main reason they have signed up so I think there could be great interest in this.

If you put the posts together I'll announce it Boardswide...
(you should really make them individual votes)

    DeV.

I'd also make sure to consult with Lucutus, save him a nervous breakdown. Or else set it up on the 'Boards Awards' board, which is a better idea.....

    Also a couple more categories:

Best Male/Female (or just one 'solo' category)
    Best Metal.
    Best Video
    Best Single
    Best Album
    ?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,831 ✭✭✭Lucutus

    Sure,

It's a good idea, if you, (monument), wanna throw separate posts with polls on here for each category, that's fine, start them with something like...

    Boards.ie Music Awards: Best Blah

..so I/We know what it is for.

I can move them to Boards Awards later...

I suggest using this thread for discussing it in general and each Poll thread can be for discussing the award in question. I'll sticky the Poll threads too, please tho, no more than 10 award categories ;)

    Luc

    Some more suggestions:-

    Best Music Radio Show

    > Dad Rock - Today FM (Sunday nights 9 - 11. Was much better with Marty Miller tho)

    Best Irish Artist Website

    > paddycasey.com

Ok will do so, but first I will let every one post their ideas...

Due to the cap of 10 categories, Best dance is being replaced by Best Album. Its only fair to get rid of best dance, as there are no other genre type categories.

also thanks to DeVore and every one who has posted

Get rid of the two greatest hits from the albums section. cos they're not albums :)

replace with: Gomez - In Our Gun, Doves - The Last Broadcast, DJ Shadow - Private Press, Blackalicious - Blazing Arrow, The Flaming Lips - Yoshimi Battles...

And why do you is the first category called "Irish-based"?
Is that just to slip Rodrigo y Gabriela in? who are far from Irish :)

best Irish group I've seen this year would be easily be the Redneck Manifesto.

Excellent album, and if the gig hadnt been so small I would put it forward for best visiting live act because their concert was simply fantastic.

Oh, and can we have a big pissup in a groovy venue and invite all the award winners to come along and pick up their framed pieces of paper and rapidly get drunk with us?

    [other voices a-lá Barney Gumble]

    Sounds good to me.

    Yeah, I agree with him.

    Yeah, listen to Bard!

    Yeah, Bards idea! Bards idea!

    Bards the man.

    Heavens! The boy is right!

    etc.

There should be some sponsored drinking event to go with this. The O2 MMS Boards Music Awards or something. Any local brew companies want to sponsor a few kegs ?

Ehm, The categories seem a bit strange. Theres 1 album award and 2 website awards?

Music awards should be about the music, not the websites:)

What about best new international act instead of new to ireland (only 3 choices)?

why did you not say this before?

"Ehm, The categories seem a bit strange. Theres 1 album award and 2 website awards?"

it looked like a good idea at the time to do three website awards as it an online awards

"Music awards should be about the music, not the websites:)"

true, but this is an irish online music awards

"What about best new international act instead of new to ireland (only 3 choices)? "

again, its an irish awards, wanted to have a good bit of irish in it

next year it will be better, if I dont some one can
