I have been distracted from responsiblities at IOFFL for the last few weeks, therefore for my apologies for the delay. Please find a link below to the first release of the Ireland Offline Press Pack.

I will be adding to it over the course of this week and would value your feedback, perhaps a contribution of your own and most importantily your spreading the word.

May I also extend IOFFL's Thanks to all those who have contributed to it.

    The Ireland Offline Press Pack.

Mods I appreciated this being sticked for a little while.

Is it just me, or does that link just take you to the home page?
As with the "Enter the site" link, it just seems to loop back onto the homepage..
Maybe I just have a problem displaying PHP sites properly...

Great Stuff. All of these. Really show that this is a people’s issue.

And I think Darren Jordan's eloquent and dignified description of his situation is probably the most compelling case I have yet read for flat rate and affordable broadband. I’d urge one and all to read it. It elevates the arguments onto a whole new plane.

I was somewhat surprised (well, not really...) to see that there wasn't anything like "How the lack of proper internet access affects ne'erdowell students looking to download films and pornography".

It's always business, the disabled, and tourism, eh? :P

    *sniff*

    (keep it up!)

    David C,

Ask a silly question but have you signed up to the website ?
Clicking the 'Press Pack' link on the left hand side nav bar has the same effect ...

I am living in Dublin and I wish that my internet speed had increased as fast as my rent.

that says such a lot in just one sentence

Very good articles. Every one of them. Nice work!

I really think it would be useful to have a 'where are we now' section regarding broadband in Ireland so that any passing journo can get to the facts quickly.

That way it's more likely that they'll get the story right first off.....

    Just a thought,

We had a similar idea it will be in the next release *fingers crossed*.

One suggestion I have is that there be one story about how broadband actually changed someone's life / business, as opposed to how it 'would' or 'could'. That is, someone who was struggling before trying to pay dialup bills, but was now liberated in some way, whether that's freeing up money to hire a new employee or someone with young children being enabled to work at home and save money, improve quality of life, etc.

Only problem I suppose is that you don't necessarily want to highlight the fact that paying €90 + VAT per month could save some people money. Might give the Rat the wrong idea.

How Lack of Internet Access Affects Companies in Ireland:

    Letterkneey

Irish e-busines struggle to compete in the European Marketplace:

    jepordise

How lack of Internet Infrastructure affects tourism:

    Sout-west

I came out of lurking just to post these :p
    Overall I think it's great :)

(I would happily offer to proof-read stuff but then I guess noone knows me :D )

Version 2 of the Press Pack goes live.

This release contains more articles from residental user and a comparision of resident internet services in Ireland and Norway. Again any contributions, feedback etc would be most gratefully received.

Agreed. It really shifts the description of €ircon from a bullish monopolistic inefficient Telco to all of the above except they deprive the disabled of much needed educational and recreational activities and make no apologies for doing so. I think that Darren's case could be multiplied several hundred/thousand times.
Darren could, if he did not live in Ireland of course, become very proficient at website design, perhaps even generate a second income for himself. This of course can't happen since he lives in a country where those responsible for bringing a decent service are too busy feathering their own nests with huge million Euro salaries and to be quite frank probably couldn't care less about Darren or anyone else in a similar situation.

I will pass your sentiments onto Darren, he will be delighted to hear them ...
