model number and name of said motherboard and ye shall be granted a reply, alternatively reading your motherboard's instruction manual can also help with situations like this, it will state how much max ram it can take, in what size sticks and whether they be double sided/whatnot.

Good advice TacT reading the manual is always the best way to get answers.

As to his initial question.. if you can take 512 max.. then there is probably NO chance it will take a single 512, you would need 2 x 256 and i have never seen a motherboard any different to that.

If you happen to have a Dell system, then you can find out via their website, http://support.euro.dell.com/

You just need your service tag code off the side of the computer.

    Might also try www.kingston.com

Very good for memory specs for oddball motherboards and everything from digital cameras to IBM AT's

if it has 2 slots and only takes a max of 512meg ram there's no chance it'll take 512meg dimms.
    General rule of thumb
MaxRAM/number of slots = max Dimm size.
