Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Barca supporters and Luis Figo

    Nice to see that apart from the usual assortment of bicycle chains, mobile phones, and coins, Figo had a bottle of whiskey and a pig's head (!) thrown at him during the match on Saturday.

    Obviously it's a minor section of Barca supporters doing this, but why in the hell was Figo insisting on taking the corners in front of a particularly hostile section of supporters?

    The other question is how did the guy get the pig's head into the stadium? Security can't be up to much at the Nou Camp, or maybe they just let him in when he said he intended to throw it at Figo :)

    For a start, I think people are being totally unreasonable to consider a man taking corners down the Boixos Nois end as being imflammatory, or provocative. The man takes most of the corners for the team, with Cambiasso taking a little few this season.

    Gaspart's reaction is totally unsurprising, he's a Barca legend and he didn't get there by slagging his own fans. He's a partisan, he defends his own club against the indefensible, Ridsdale and Edwards and whoever else you want to name wouldn't have a clue about such passion. They're money men.

    As a person that dislikes Barcelona as a team and as an entity, I am irritated by the fact that this has being going on for the past three years everytime Figo visits the Camp Nou. The fact that its taken a referee so long to finally have the bollocks to do something about it also stinks. I think the Spanish FA have to act on this one. They cannot expect FC Barcelona to do anything. the club is a members club run by partisans with no interests other than defending their own interests. Rest assured that the Bioxos Nois (who used to be known as devout left-wingers and anti-fascists, but are now nastily rightwing) will not be punished internally by Gaspart or anyone else. They are the most passionate fans, the pride and joy of the club who make the Camp Nou such an interesting place to visit.

    The responsibility of punishing football clubs has to be shouldered by the big wigs in Madrid. There will be a lot of people queuing up to slap fines and closures on Barca, but there will be many more jumping to defend them along the lines of "sure that happens in every ground", which it does.

    What come of this is going to be very interesting indeed, as for a club as big as Barcelona to be exposed as being subject to the same rules as anyone else would surprise millions of football fans around the world. We can only wait.
