    The Stranglers - Aural Sculpture

Yes, I know we've featured them before, but don't blame me that the Stranglers have so many great albums! This one dates from 1984, when things in Stranglerland were starting to go pear-shaped. Creatively they were still on top of their game, but Hugh Cornwell and JJ Burnel were beginning to despise each other for various reasons that we'll go into on Thursday. Aural Sculpture is the Stranglers "poppiest" album to date, but that's in relative terms you understand. There's still songs about drugs, women being cruel, war, and....er....Marvin Gaye.

Anyway, tune in to The Album Archive this Thursday at 8pm on Phantom and we'll take you through the genesis, recording and release of the album, as well as an account of JJ beating the **** out of Hugh in Rome on the Aural Sculpture tour. We'll play you live versions, alternative versions and album versions of the songs that make up the album as well. Aural Sculpture indeed.

    Regards

    Rob

    Hi Guys.

Drowner, I haven't forgotten about Faith No More, I'm currently sourcing research material on the album (Angel Dust) so as to provide you with a top-notch introduction to the band, as you requested. It'll probably be after Christmas, but I guarantee you it'll be worth waiting for.
Sodiumlightbaby, thanks for the suggestions. The The and The Cure are definitely two I will consider, but don't hold out much hope for Soft Cell!

    Regards

    Rob
