Yeah I used to watch it every week too. Dominic Diamond was the original host. The first 2 series or so were pretty good, but went downhill (from what it was) pretty quickly after that.

Game shows of that nature back then were pretty much non-existent, so even though Gamesmaster was a bit smelly, we used to watch it nonetheless.

It was either that, or that other crap program on UTV on Saturday, Movies, Games and Videos.

I think everybody who watched this show wanted a golden joystick. I could boast thatI've got one but then I would be lying:confused: .
Some good memories of it though. It was from watching this show that made me buy two of my all time favourite games Rocket Knight Adventures and Gunstar Heroes. Also I remember seeing the FF7 opening for the first time on this show and it completely blew me away. It really showed what the next gen systems could do. Dexter was a bit of a crap presenter and by the time Dom came back it was too late.

You might remember Dave "The Games Animal" Perry from the show. Not to be confused with Dave Perry from Shiny. He set up www.gamesanimal.co.uk just last month. It's a very amusing ego shrine where you can go worship him. You can find tons of Gamesmaster info there, including video clips.

Hahahaha, I remember Dave Perry alright, what a twat. Anyone remember when he lost the Mario 64 pengiun slide challenge on Gamesmaster and went nuts? He started shouting about it being a fix and was odviously upset - he looked on the verge of tears. Probably one of the funniest things I've ever seen.

I remember seeing some guy win a SFII comp with the green thing from Brazil (what's his name again?) ,he would make them block and start biting them, cheap bastard!

Lads, I caught an episode of this last night on Bravo. It was from 1991 which was during my prime of videogaming. But lord when you look back at it how did we think the games then were brilliant > One of the challenges was a Megaman game which looked cat.
The big preview they were raving about was Dune which was due out June 1992 and the previewers were going on about how fantastic it looked and how it's like being part of the move :p
    How times have changed.

    Blanka was it's name :)

Yeah gamesmaster was cheesy but still kinda cool when I was younger.
best game show in recent years was that late late night show - bytes was it called? It was presented I think by three girls, it was decent enough. Think one of them then presented a different Friday-night games show with some comedian fella. I think it last 5/6 episodes.
Then there's that crap crap games show on Sky1 - why do they all try to make these shows "cool" and "whoah games! in your face!" - least gamesmaster didn't do that :S

ahh the nostalgia. dya remember the cheats section where some randomer would ask the gamesmaster (patrick moore) some rediculously easy question about a game or for cheats or something. "gamesmasta - how do i turn on my megadrive"

what was the name of the show which tried to rip off gamesmaster. It had yer wan jet from gladiators as the games mistress.

was that the same show where they had random punters play games against about 10 of their gamers who were kinda comedy characters, i think bad boy barry was one?

    haahaha loved that show -

can remember mass time trials of james pond of guys legging it thru the levels or cool spot

such a legend of a show, i think fridays was when the "superstars" came in, the business guy and the priest with golden joypad

Gamesmaster the magazine gave away a disc with the last ever episode on it there a few months ago, watched it a few times. Some hilarious bits in it. Can barely remember it as a show tbh, wasn't much into games when it was on, but would love to see a decent games show on television again, best in recent years has been bits, I agree. The girls were hot, and they did some decent reviews and features in it. Also there were a few good interviews. At least it didn't treat gamers as 10 years, and pander to companies and censors. They also had a decent sense of humour about it, and the fact that girls were hosting it.

anyone see the show they showed at about 12 o clock one night on c4 during the gamesmaster series with dominic diamond? IT had all of the xrated games on it...that shít fúcked me up and made me curse alot from then on

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,335 ✭✭✭Cake Fiend

I think I might have a VHS tape knocking around my parents' place with a few episodes of GM on it, including the rather nicely done intro to the second series (episode starts like the first series, apparently screws up, shows one of those generic 'technical difficulties' yokes, then goes 'insert disk 2' or some such and begins the l44t helicopter-to-the-oilrig intro to the second series).

Dexter Fletcher, walking offence to TV viewers, presented Series 3 iirc. After that, all I really watched it for were the previews from some of the well-known future publishing journos.

I remember first hearing about the upcoming SNES on GM and thinking it looked like the coolest thing evarr. Such a futuristic-looking controller! (although clearly inspired by one of the later-generation Famicom controllers).

Now that I think back, the show was pretty bad, but there was bugger all else on worth watching, bar Bad Influence.

AHAHA!! I remember that LOL I was like 10 and wasn't allowed stay up to watch it. I remember that night so well all 10 years ago I missed like half of it ffs but heard my mother leave the sitting room so i snuck in and turned on the video to record all stealthy like so she'd never know. And I managed to watch the second half. WOOOOOAH BOOBYS and Gorey Finisher Moves from some old fighter I can't remember the name of (NOT MK)!!!! Bitz did their own version of it few years ago called "The Bitz they didn't want you to see" which was the same kinda thing basically.

As for that other show a couple of years after it with the Games mistress Diane Youdale aka: Jet from gladiators. Big Boy Barry was the dude who was meant to be their MAJOR gamer guy but there were some others too who made appearances. Actually David Williams who used to play one of the characters on that show is now in comedy with yer man Matt Lucas aka: George Dawes (The Man in a sleepsuit) from Shooting stars. I can't remember his character but he was one of the gamers in it as far as i can remember. He's the kinda nerdy one. Funny bastids made Little Britain together which was all over BBC recently.

Dominic Diamond was on GMTV recently too for some Nerdy project he's currently working on I think. Hadn't seen him on TV SINCE I saw an episode of gamesmaster 10 or so years ago but he's still the comedian.

As for Dave Perry? WTF was with those Bandanas!!! Fcukin TWAT.

    Right I think I'm done. :)

    Ry

I think for a while he was the presenter of a sports talk show on BBC radio5 iirc. Apparently he was a bit of a twat in real-life tho'

Gamesmaster is on challenge on sky digital at like 10am in the morning and then really late at night now. How did they rope patrick moore into being the gamesmaster?? And does'nt dominik diamond just appear on those s***y sky one shows where they make up lies about celebrities for pure entertainment value???
