    cool thread!!!

not so cool for me, i was between these two
    Boney M. - Mary's Boy Child
    The Village People. - Y.M.C.A.

strange, i probably recognise more number ones in
those late 70's,early 80's years than number ones in recent years

Dr. Hook. When You're In Love With A Beautiful Woman, no wonder i'm so slick with the latdeez :D

As for the person who thought bright eyes was sentimental muck, i have to disagree, the song was written about a friend dying of cancer hence the line "following the river of death down stream" and i think its one ofthe most touching and beautiful songs ever, but thats just me..........

The Beatles/Get Back which stayed 6 weeks in the chart and was followed by The Beatles last ever No. 1 song (well at least from their heyday) The Ballad of John & Yoko.

Get Back is memorable as they performed the song live on the roof of HMV in London. This was the inspiration for U2's "Where the streets have no name" video.

The Animals - House of The Rising Sun

Yay, I'm well impressed. I was dreading that it was going to be some twee pop/crooner crap.

Btw, in response to the person who asked about "Ferry Aid" - this was a song recorded by various pop artists in 1987, to raise funds for the victims of the Hearald of Free Enterprise disaster (fully laden ferry rolled over and sank killing dozens, because they had forgotten to close the bow doors before sailing).

    Steve

    "There is a house . . . . "
