If you had broadband at home this Christmas, how would you use it?

Most of my family lives in North America, so I would keep a webcam pointed at my Christmas tree where my brothers, cousins, parents, nephews, nieces and daughters could see Kilkenny in the Yuletide season. And I would open presents and enjoy lots of Irish coffee in front of them.

This would be the first time most of my relations would see an Irish hamper. And it would be always-on for them to join in a Net Meeting if they liked.

I would no longer feel guilty, knowing I didn't send someone a Christmas card. All they would need is my sitting room URL.

Didn't ESAT say they would be rolling out a residental ADSL package (or was it FRAICO) by Christmas??

Shouldn't they have started announcing stuff? As everyone can see by walking down Grafton St, Christmas is nearly here. Or did they mean next Christmas?

For me the attraction of ADSL is more the "always on" ability rather than the speed (though that would be nice :-)) .. not having to dial in to get email would be a big bonus

    on bernies point,

that is exactly why eircon are ****ting themselves...becasue bang goes the 9 million euro per minute calls....

also i get emails all the time from a major supplier of electronics (who i wont name) but they are dutch....

they have cd players/radios that they are always trying to get me to try out that connect to your lan in your house and play radios from all over the world (just like yer pc) except the software is automatically updated for you...you just need it always on.. it also did some wacky stuff with the cd but i cant remember..

the camera stuff works (i use it in work all the time) and if you have bandwidth -- its the coolest...but only with bandwidth

i disagree, i have a logitech pro cam 3000 and a dial up and when i used it to a mate in australia the picture was perfect , prob a 1 sec time delay,

msn mgr was a bit tacky, yahoo was much better quality,
    netmeeting was incredible quality

www.spotlife.com is handy if you want to broadcast public

I have that camera too and dialup but the picture quality is pretty poor and stuttering.

sorry cisco, i didnt mean to say it doesnt work -- its just a tad crap.

now imagine you have always on, and your phone works at the same time

someone from Australia or US calls , (on the PC) and boom excellent transfer rates, excellent quality...without having to dialin and arrange a meeting at a predetermined time...

    now whick would you prefer

And you could have less security camera like refresh speeds (2 frames a second on a good day can be annoying) at resolutions greater than... err... 32x32! ;)

Admit it, you really just want to watch porn.
    Who doesn't, though!
