God, all of those games are fantastic. Double Dragon would be my favourite for button-bashing down the arcade (closely followed by R-Type) but I'll nominate Elite for being wall to wall class and way ahead of its time.

    P.S. Follow Gordo's link y'all ^^^^^^^^

A poll is useless for stuff like this. You've mentioned some good games but...What about Defender, Joust , Tempest , Turrican 2 , Pac-Land (Way better then pac-man) Oh and Frontier: Elite and tons more.

Frontier: First Encounters is actualy the best, after the bugs have been fixed. http://www.jaj22.demon.co.uk/ it works with windows and is very good.

Ah Elite is currently leading the poll. I'm so proud of you all. :D

Galaxian is much more fun than space invaders. However, space invaders does have that cool 'panic is setting in' kind of feeling, helped on enormously by the sound.

    Damn, where's Syndicate?
That easily pwns all those games.

But failing that, I voted Elite.
A truly visionary game that's not yet been matched.
    Rather like Syndicate, eh?

Oh come on... That was poo...

In all fairness, the best Personal Computer game of all those was Paperboy. It kept me amused for hours back in 199'whatever. Nevermind the consoles. PC games were always the best. (But if you are going to go for consoles stick Megalomainiac for the Megadrive in there for god sake ... the best console game ever ... and then Shining Force :D Get it on the emulator if you _forget_ what it was like. Pure Class.)

And Syndicate was class too. Games like these never die.

A bit like "Sit down" by James. Always going to be good.
