Help me with PHP

I need help. I used Dreamweaver to do the pages for a web site. There's loads of HTML code. I'm new to PHP as well. A few questions: 1) Where do I put the PHP code? 2) The site is mosty made up of layers, so do I have to write the PHP inside the HTML segments for each layer? Thanx.
