Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

We all know that the network called "the World Wide Web" developed out of the 1960's ARPAnet, but when was your first experience of it?

I first dabbled in connecting to 'da web' in 1993 with Mosaic on my Macintosh LC. I used it in earnest from 1995 onwards when I went to University. Mosaic was still top dog amongst browsers for the SGI, Sun and other Unix systems on offer, but Netscape Navigator was becoming de rigeur for the 486's around campus.

"Have you checked out this Internet thingy?"

    "The Interwha'?"

    About 95'ish at school.

I was one of the only people who knew anything about computers (and how to Alt-Tab when a teacher walked past) and hence I was laboured with finding Porn for the rest of the lads ;)

Sent an e-mail about 1995, using a DOS interface. Was aware of the lads using lists as far back as 1992/93.

Same as Oz - around 93 in college (first some FTP progs, later Mosaic when it arrived - went through pretty much the whole web when it came out - there were less than 1000 sites at the time:D) - didn't know what the internet was when I was getting stuff via FTP, only made the connection later:rolleyes:

I'm waiting for the real dinosaurs to come along (there must be a few posting here) to tell us about using something really user-unfriendly in the 80s

LOL :D i can see them now.
I invented usenet, it was some time in the 70s, you see back in those day we didnt have any of this metaphore driven computer interfaces. we used sandpaper coated keyboards and little green monitors that spat so much radiation out it caused my facial hair to mutate into this huge beard. we also had none of that new fangled adsl or cable stuff either, all packets had to be hand delivered. anyway thats how i ended the vietnam war and invented usenet.

back to me. i messed around with some bbs stuff in the early 90s. first real experience of the intarwab was some time in 95 it was looking for moves for fx fighter(remember that was supposed to come out on the snes) on a mates computer.

Messed about with BBS stuff about 88,89 period. There were quite a few in the UK and it cost a fortune in bills!! Myself and a mate wanted to set one up at the time useing a piece of software called Wildcat BBS useing an XT PC. (Running at a blistering speed of 8MHz!!). Didnt start useing the Net Proper until I started to work back in 96 and got it at home about about 97.

There was a kid at school that had a super-fast 1200/75 modem (1200bps down , 75bps up). It was one of the really cool ones that connected straight into the phone socket instead of having to be physically connected to a phone's handset.

At least they didn't have pop-ups and Flash intro's back then.
