I am doing an essay(2000words) on the difference between a consumer hire agreement and a hire purchase agreement. Any help out there?
Also another essay on what changes from a consumer's interest, in the provision of hire purchase agreements is needed in the Consumer Credit Act 1996. Any reference material or web site addresses would be appreciated.

First off it is the CONSUMER CREDIT ACT, 1995 (24 of 1995). (note this act says you must clarify what type of agreement is being proposed in your advertising)

    There are also:

    S.I. No. 247/1996: CONSUMER CREDIT ACT, 1995 (SECTION 120) REGULATIONS, 1996.
S.I. No. 277/1996: EUROPEAN COMMUNITIES (CONSUMER CREDIT ACT, 1995) (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS, 1996
    S.I. No. 369/1996: CONSUMER CREDIT ACT, 1995 (SECTION 2) (No. 2) REGULATIONS, 1996.

Some banks get you to waive certain rights under the act - 10 day cooling off period, about contacting you at work.

Problems arise where insurance, payment protection and the like attach to such contracts. Credit card companies can extend limits without the clients permission.

Contact your local Money Advice Bureau and ask them what they think of the act. Tehy will be familiar with the greatest problems.
