Curious about this, between me, my brother and sister we have about 300 dvds and i've only ever watched two of the dvds more than once, they being battle royale and godfather trilogy. I tend to just buy dvds for the sake of having them, i'd much rather spend 20euro buying a dvd than 5,6 whatever it is renting one even if i only watch it once. Seems a terrible waste in retrospect.

How often would you watch the same dvd?

I only ever buy dvd movies that I really want and I know wont be on tv often/at all. As a result, ive watched the movies in my current collection (50+) at least 5 times each.

I do have the odd turkey though. :)

I have over 300 DVD's and I do watch certain films multiple times.

Currently I have watched LotR:FotR Extended Edition 3 times since getting it. I have also watched most of the extras as well.

Most of the DVD's I have watched twice.

I have 20 I haven't watched yet. These include Angel Heart, Taxi Driver, The Producers (just received),The Eye, Vampires Kiss, Amores Perros. These will be watched when I'm in the mood to see them.

Also I find myself looking at documentaries normally a while after I see a film. I actually watched the Making of Documentary on The Producers last night before I have even seen the film (on DVD that is) which is excellent btw withs some very interesting tit-bits like Dustin Hoffman was orginally going to play the part of Franz Leibkind (the mad German) until he got offered the lead in The Graduate.

Yes I also find myself revisiting favourite scenes in films as well to show off to friends. The Beach Landing in Saving Private Ryan, The Battle in Gladiator, The Mines of Moria in FotR :)

I also have certain films that I call my "sickie films" you know if your home from work sick (hungover ). They would be Robocop, Tommy Boy, Happy Gilmore & Toy Story :)

    Gandalf.

I only got a DVD player about 4 months ago and own about 5/6 DVD's.

I watched 'em all about 2+ times, but I own Black Hawk Down and have watched that about 8+ times, and read the book 5+ times.... lol (They are very different tbh).

I got a good 30 or 40 DVDs, and I mainly only buy films I've already seen, and will watch multiple times. The Big Lebowski, Leon, Romper Stomper, and of course Lord Of The Rings, I've watched many, many times already.

But there is the odd turkey that I probably will never watch again, and I bang my head for getting... Blair Witch 2 is the foremost turkey I've got. Hopefully I can find someone to flog it off to. But it was pretty cheap, so I didn't loose out too much, really.

But yes, there's also quite a few films I'd just watch certain scenes of. Heat being a prime example. You know the scene. ;)

Here's a list of the DVDs I own:
    Aliens
    American History X
    Being John Malkovich
    Big Lebowski, The
Blair Witch 2: Book Of Shadows
    Braveheart
    Brotherhood Of The Wolf
    Conan The Barbarian
    Cradle Of Fear
    Enemy At The Gates
    Excalibur
    Fight Club
    Gladiator
    Heat
    Interview With The Vampire
    Leon
    Lord Of The Rings, The
    Lost Boys, The
    Memento
    Negotiator, The
One Flew Over The Cookoo's Nest
    Outbreak
    Pitch Black
    Prophecy, The
    Romper Stomper
    Ronin
    Se7en
    Sleepy Hollow
    Stargate
    Three Kings
    Titan A.E.
    Twelve Monkeys
    Vampires
    X-Men

I'd say a good 80% have been watched quite a few times, and will be watched again.

Also what's great, are music DVDs.
I usually watch a few songs from each at a time, stick in another, watch that for a bit, and so forth. Just mix and match.
Here's what music DVDs I've got:
Anathema - A Vision Of A Dying Embrace
Behemoth - Live Ecxhaton: The Art Of Rebellion
Cradle Of Filth - Heavy Left Handed And Candid
    Dimmu Borgir - World Misanthropy
    Emperor - Emperial Live Ceremony
Iron Maiden - Rock In Rio
    Mayhem - Live In Marseille
My Dying Bride - For Darkest Eyes
Nightwish - From Wishes To Eternity
Nine Inch Nails - And All That Could Have Been
Vader - More Vision And The Voice

    I have about 10 - 15 DVD's and I've watched most of them twice. Swordfish (R1) I've watched 3 times.

I have a few I havent' even bothered watching yet (stupid PS2 as DVD player :( ) including Final Fantasy (alternate start), Pearl Harbor (too long to watch) and What Lies Beneath (free from Fox Entertainment)!

Once I get Xmas over me, I will start buying more (though my allegiance to Play.com is fading due to slow delivery). I must be the only one on Boards NOT to have seen LOTR! Something that needs to be addressed ASAP! Plus I need a good, cheapo multi-region (incl RCE) DVD Player! :)

Dont worry irishbyte, i havent seen lotr either :).

Suppose i have about 20 - 30 DvD's and they all get multiple viewings (again i only buy what i know i love and will watch again, or that i want to watch with m8's when im home sick from college :) ).
    stupid PS2 as DVD player

i have a pretty good DvD player and ps2 and i dont see much difference tbh (alright the DvD is better, but for general viewing and not nitpicking the ps2 does the job perfectly).

Have around 100-ish dvd's, but the only ones I would watched regularly would be 3, namely

Fear & Loathing in las vegas
    The Big Labowski
    Bladerunner

By regularly, I mean I've probably watched all of them 80-100 times (I wish I was kidding)

Turkey-wise, I actually have rush hour 1 & 2, I 've only ever managed to get 5 minutes into them before turning them off and crying :)
Hmm, a few movies like that now that I think about it.

I have about 150 dvds. There are quite a few that I havent gotten around to watching yet. There's no point trying to watch something if your not in the mood for it.
There are some I've watched a fair few times, Predator, Transformers The Movie, Bad Boys, Lotr, Tremors, Taxi.
As for the ones I havent watched yet well there's Casino, The Thin Red Line, Enemy Of The State. I've seen them all before, but they are quite long and I just havent gotten around to looking at them. When I get my holidays I plan on watching most of them.

It depends on the film. Some I've watched many times some but others I've honestly only watched once since buying them (which is a little silly considering the price) but I then again I draw a certain comfort from having them there on the shelf available to me should I want to ever watch em.

Plus if someone calls over and wants to watch something in my place then I'm usually never adverse to their suggestion and glad to have the title available.

It's the same with CD's. I've hundreds that I probably haven't listen to for years but if someone suggested getting rid of any of them I'd say no as I know deep down I know they'll all be dusted down and checked out again at least one more time in the future.

I have 80+ dvds. I have about 20 I haven't watched yet. Only recently watched Once Were Warriors after having it for well over a year.

I have a few I want to see but just don't have the time. Too many things to do when I finish work. :)

Edit: Fight Club is the one that gets the most spinnage, none of the rest really.

i have about 50+ DVD's and i would say i have watched all them at least 3+ times - i mean what is the point of having them otherwise..............

Ive got one DVD:D :D It is Lethal Weapon 4 it came free with the PC.
Honestly, most of you have spent more than 2 grand on DVDs.Why buy so many when you can just rent them? Most of you seem to have watched each on average 3 times. If you were to rent each one three times from Xtra Vision you would have saved money. Most forum members here seem to be under 25.Most of you could have paid for car insurance with the money you spent on DVDs.Im not preaching but I know I would rather a car than a few hundred DVDs.
As for the regularity of viewing it is the same as CDs-you might have one CD you listen to twice a week and ou may have others that got one or two listens.

Is it just me or do people buy alot more DVD films that people used to buy video films?

I used to never buy vhs but for some reason i buy a merde load of dvds, its probably the extras which make dvds more tempting, i dunno.

I own about twenty DVD's as I only got my DVD player a few months back. But I've just bought some more on play.com. The ones I've watched most are LOTR, The Thing, Blade2, Donnie Darko. Each 3 or 4 times.

I also bauhjt all the Kevin Smith films cause i can watch them over and over again!

I have to say im not very bothered by dvd extras much though!

    I like the comentarys!

I've seen Speed 9 times, i hated it the first time i watched it, but it was just an unfortunate matter of fate that brought me to watch a further 8 times

I've got about 35 DVDs, I've only watched most of them twice so far, but I live in a flat with 6 other guys so they've been watching them too. I've picked most of them up cheap, for under £10, I've only got about 5 DVDs that I bought at full price.

Complete tosh-potty! You'll find many films are simply not available to rent, especially older ones. Recently, I went around to 5 or 6 different video stores looking for a copy of The Elephant Man, with absolutely no luck.

And, as Mills says, picking them up cheap is no bother half the time. I got 12 Monkeys for about a tenner. Picked up 4 films on tuesday when I was in Dublin, got them in HMV, who had a good buy one get one free offer. Plenty of truly great films on offer also. Got 4 for less than 60, which is roughly less than 15 a film. And I shall be watching these again.

Also, if you've got friends like mine, we usually borrow back and forth films a lot. So for my money, I can kinda 'swap' my own for a friends for the weekend, or whatever, any time, free of charge.

Frankly, I'd think it works out better than renting, if I look at it subjectively. There's also the great feeling of actualy having something that doesn't have to be taken back before tomorrow night. And there's usually late charges, that every will get at some stage or another.

Actually given that quite a few of my DVD's are boxsets or special editions I've spent around €6000 :)
