I want to get sky for the sports channels. However i only know of NTL in Ireland. The best deal they have is standard pack, sky sports1 +2 +3 and movies pack all for E46 a month.

Is that a good price or is der better out there??

Wot other companies can i choose from in Ireland. Its annoyingly hard to find info on the net about this.

Ntl have a good site, but i heard they have very bad fone service.

    All advice appreciated.

Movies and sport on the 1 package on that satelite.ie site costs E60. E37.50 installation special offer.

I can get that with NTL for E46. E150installation fee.

I think ill be goin the NTL way unless i find a better deal.
Any other companies or sites i can check??

Although, Sky is costly, it has 100's more channels than NTL, thats what you are paying for (apparently).
Also as it's the home of sky sports you get their interactive options.

You also get Sky Sports Extra and Sky Sports News and the option for signing up to NASN.

If you find someone who has Sky already and Ring Sky, you can get 70Euro of Dunnes vouchers. You need to quote the special offer code in Sky Mag. Expires 21st Dec 2002 I think.

You can downgrade to cheaper pack, listed here in decending price:
    Movies or Sports only
    Family Pack
    Knowledge or Popular Pack
Vaule pack (the not value pack)

    After one month.

You can cancel after a year and renew any time within minutes, and recancel with 1month notice.

    Masochistic are we?:D

The service from Chorus is terrible, honestly.

Ignoring that for the moment, basically, you're either in a Chorus cable area, an NTL cable area or a non-cable (possibly MMDS) area. So to keep it simple, you won't be able to pick and choose from either Chorus or NTL if you want cable TV - you'd just have to go with whoever services your area.

Im from Co. Louth. Is that an NTL area or chorus. And how terrible r they?? I thought Ntl was de worst.

Who else is der to choose from?

Chorus Digital MMDS 60 channels, erratic service €38 approx. Mostly excellet picture.

Chorus or NTL Analog MMDS. About 11 channels. Can cost as much as Sky. Varies from only just acceptable to abysmal quality. Typically one or three legally "free" channels without subscription (TV3, C4, Bravo) if you know how and have the gear.

Sky Digital Family Pack 200+ Channels, good service €27 approx. Perfect picture on "good" channels. Some cheap rubbish channels (usually free) look like broadband web cam!.
More Expensive is Movie World, Sports World or both (Sky World).

Disney 4 chs are about 7 euro extra pm on non-"world" packs. "Free" with the premium "world" packs.

Sky Digital NO subscription, free: 60ish Radio, 70 TV (about 5 or 6 decent channels, TCM, Boomerang, CNN, Travel, Motors, Extreme Sports, Chart Hits etc).

Analog Cable: Cheap, erratic service, often poor quality. 10+ channels.

Digital Cable: Limited availability, nearly as expensive as Sky.

Sky has option for free reception (legally). Cable / MMDS hasn't.

With Satellite you own the gear and can still watch/listen many worthwile channals without subscription or viewing card. There are also UK FTV "free" cards but you need a UK address to get one. You can even pick up non-"Sky" satellites.

With Cable or MMDS you never own any gear, you can't move it or use it on holiday or easily have a break in subscription while still getting some service (Sky reconnection is a phone call and a few minutes with 1 month notice to cancell again)

With Cable you only get it if it goes past your door. Someone hacks it and it gone. Tapping in is illegal. Digital Cable is less available.

Analog MMDS. Analog will be turned off. Any unscrambled analog MMDS channel may be legally freely received. Unscrambling a scrambled channel without paying is illegal. It uses US Cable TV gear over PAL AM video microwave so quality is worse than good Broadcast PAL (which is AM) and much worse than Analog Satellite (FM). Typically Chorus offer an Analog MMDS box with the Digital MMDS for a second TV set, "free".

Digital MMDS. Much more channels than UK DTT, but no free option. The receiver/decoder is a Sagem and is a similar concept to Sky Digibox or UK DTT freeview, except you never own it. 60ish channels now, 120ish when analog turned off. Chorus has Digital MMDS quite widely even offering it in some Chorus Cable areas, NTL had not done ANY digital MMDS till recently, and threatened with sanctions if they don't get moving!

If you just want BBC / UTV and can get cable then it is best value. If you not in cable area, or want specialist or lots of channels, or want 60 free radio channels, or even specialist free channels after cancell 1st year sub, then Sky is actually best value or even cheapest.

You can even cheaply fit a dish on a mobile home / holiday home and take Sky box and just plug it in.
