I'm trying to find out who pays the most for insurance.

Myself, I pay €4609 for Third Party, fire and theft :( on a Focus.

I've heard of a 22 year old chap paying just over €8000 for a 98 1.2 punto ... ouch  (he crashed another car when he was 17)

Quinn direct quoted me 6000 for the same 3rd party only with out the sat trackin

    1325 for TPF&T on a 1.4L Corolla (but then I'm 27, go figure)

Should come down again nicely next year if all goes well and I keep clean

    (only passed test in March:))

940 euros - third party only on a Yamaha XV125 (one of the slowest, heaviest 125's on the road)... 3yrs no claims - 2nd provisional. I'm waiting for my test

I'm 20 yrs old and living in Kilkenny btw. I understand that that premium would possibly be twice as much as it is if I were in Dublin.

  • Registered Users Posts: 677 ✭✭✭Eye

shelled out 1452 yo yo's last summer for my 650cc dragstar
3 years no claims bonus and a provisional licence... only 21 and in tipperary, like stephen said, bring that to dublin and i would probably fork out close to twice that much :(

must remember to do the test before next summer ;)

Rumour has it that one chap was quoted e21,000 on a e19,000 car! He did not take it.

It is so bad nowadays that before buying a car you need to know how much it'll be to insure it!

In oz a young bloke could be insured for $700 aussie $ for a nice v6, 3litre job and feel like he's being screwed! I know of a chap who at 25 was paying $300 for something similar and now for the killer apparently in New Zealand there is no car insurance - all taken care of by the government!

It's not the weather keeping me here and if I was 8 years younger and not self employed I'd be gone out of Ireland for good. Houses, cars, insurance, beer everything is miles cheaper in oz, nz or the us.

€920 for Fire and Theft on BMW 325 TDS

and i know i'm still paying too much in comparison to the rest of europe ;)

ah not good, i was talking to a guy that was 27ish and he had been riding a bike for yrs, really low premium and all and he just got a car a month ago and he was quoted like 4000, said his bike experiece counted for very little (car insurance people). So no he gotta go an build up a no claims bonus all again, sucks.

$hit, that is a good premium civic.... really good infact considering I'm also 21 and paying 4600 on 1.4. Do you have a no claims bonus or something? Even with a 2years no claims and doing the hibernian ignition scheme I still would be paying 3700

All I have is ony years driving experience on my mothers car. Being honest being insured under yopur parents does not seem to worth anything when you go to get your own policy. My experience was not taken into consideration my insurer said. Without the driving course I would not be driving the car I have now.

€2400 on a 1.4 Astra. 27, had two accidents though in the first year of the policy. Surprisingly it has come down though when renewed earlier this year. It was €2,600 last year. Shame about the accidents. It was £1,300 when I first took out the policy!

(replied to your PM but here's the info in case it's of use to anyone else)

The policy is with "Highway Insurance", got the quote through a broker in Mallow (Brosnan Boylan Golden). The actual policy cost was €1278 - admin fees and so on were €47 bringing the total cost up to 1325. The disadvantage is that they don't offer windscreen cover as an extra. The lowest quote I got from AXA (after mentioning the alternative quote) was 1523 (a good 400 less than their initial quote mind you). One year NCB factored in (less than your 3)

    Paying ?1306 TPFT on a '90 AUDI 80 1.8 petrol, 26 with a full no claims.....
But I've been payin almost exactly the same insurance for 5 years in a row
    now!!(4 yrs of which was a '90 316i)
Down in OZ I had a 5.7 V8 for 6 months, all I had to pay was basic rego of

I'm paying €900 for a 1.6 Renault Megane Coupe with AXA thru the AA. I have 70% no claims bonus, full licence for 5 years...But I've been paying around the same for the last six years no sign of it decreasing.

What I wonder though is - my BF on my policy costs nothing. (He's 30, full no claims bonus, drives a 2.0 Alfa Romeo and his insurance is €1000). But to have me on his insurance costs an etra €300!

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,398 ✭✭✭ando

jeez, I really expected someone to come on and say they were paying more than me :(

    Euro 1544 for a 1.1 litre Peugeot 106
10 years full licence, but have not had Irish insurance myself previously. Was given 2 years no claims bonus in recognition of previous experience. The above includes insurance for my fiance who is on her first provisional licence.
I got a 20% discount for doing the advanced driving course.
    Insurer- Hibernian

Note- the above includes the standard Dublin weighting.
