Taken from the overly priced Viz "magazine"s Christmas issue

    South America
There is one Christmas tradition that all mums would be happy to forego - that's washing up the plates after dinner! But for the inhabitants of the Amazonian rain forest, dirty dishes are not on the Yuletide agenda. That's because the local tribes people have their own plates surgically inserted into their lower lips during infancy for religious or possibly decorative reasons. So after dinner, it's simply a matter of setting back with the rest of the family and enjoying the Christmas film.

    Japan
Children in Japan receive far smaller presents than their lucky English counterparts. That's because only the tiniest parcels can fit under the traditional Bonsai Christmas tree. But woe betide any child who is not sufficiently grateful for their diminutive gift. Failure to write a thank you note to the Japanese Santa Claus - who is believed to be a 2 inch tall bleeping electronic elf - is an unpardonable sin which must be paid for by committing a ritual suicide on boxing day.

    Tibet
For the Buddhist monks who inhabit the Himalayan mountains of Tibet, Christmas carol singing is a rather subdued affair. their strict monastic vow of silence means they are forbidden from uttering a single sound. But if you think noiseless carol singing is tricky, their after dinner game of charades is made doubly difficult!

    United States
The American state of Texas executes hundreds of criminals every day, and Christmas day is no exception. However, the guards try to make it a special day for the condemned men, trimming 'Old Sparky' with tinsel and fairy lights, and even pulling a cracker with the prisoners before pulling the lever.
