What the hell is a VGA card?

Pardon my ignorance, but I have no idea what a VGA card is.
Is it something that fits into a slot on the motherboard?

It is another (old) name for a graphics card.

I presume you mean Accelerated Graphics card?
If you do it means I've just bought something I can't use:this
It says I have to have a VGA card that is compatible. My graphics is on the motherboard, I don't even have an AGP slot on my PC, just PCI slots.
I haven't opened the box yet in case I have to send it back.
I don't think it's going to work if I try to install it.
It didn't say anything about having to have an AGP slot when I bought it.

VGA means 'Visual Graphics Adapter'. It's an irrelevant thing nowadays as every computer has come with them as standard for the last x years. Putting it on the box is just convering their asses, like putting '386SX or higher intel compatible processor'. If you can show even the barest of graphics on your comp, then you can play the game

As already said, unless your pc is really ancient, pre pentium days, it should work fine. Worst you'd have to do is to get updated drivers, though that'd be rare.
