File sharing applications

    Could we make this a sticky, if it's suitable/not putting boards.ie into a dodgey position.
    'Course, tis arguable that this is just providing info...

    A list of file sharing apps, the "super-netowork" they're part of, the control method(s) they use (direct gui client, text based, web-based remote gui/text), what port(s) they use, and what OS they are available on.

    I'm particularly interested in stuff that runs on 32-bit x86 linux/unix and 64-bit Solaris :)

    There are clones of most filesharing programs available for linux I believe. Dunno of any which would run from command line though.( Audiogalaxy used to though, so maybe there are )

    I think file shareing programs die onece the RIAA get their mits into them. But new ones always spring up.

    Ok i use mIRC its quite good. It is a chat relay program though.
    But there is also alot of filesharing on that(Hate to tell its not legal though).

    Its a fun program though

    Kazaa all WIN plaforms awful awful program only use for that one song you cant find elsewhere.

    Direct Connect All Win platforms port: 411 /2 Useful for chat and sharing but best used within communites and unknown users not allowed in (ie boards hub must be within the boards community or mate no swedish 200 gig porn spoofers allowed)

    Emule/Edonkey The best imo it may take an age but it gets there in the end. All win platorms not sure about ports.

    if you are looking for a no frills file sharing application and ur mainly into electronic music ...soulseek is the best program i have come across and believe me i have tried them all.....it has very hard to get files from years gone by......it has ashare of commercial music also...........it also has no ads and it doesnt hog bandwith and act like a node as kazaa tends too........................soulseek homepage

    I have the text-based dctc client and the command-line forntend cccp atm, ahevnt' ahd a chance to compile them properly as we're missing some required libs.

    What ports does Direct Connect use?
