Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. Who the hell is buying these , i want their names and their bank numbers cos they're obviously stupid twits , you can buy it online adjusted to play all region DVD's for 600 quid!
BTW , i know the guy who owns the store and yes , hes a leeching b**tard.

    are these japanese imports?
cos I'm going to Japan next month.
I see an opportunity for some profit .....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,275 ✭✭✭bugs

Yup , Jap import , only problem is , they fixed the DVD region code problem for any ps2 you buy new. Doesn't really matter, we're in the same region as japan so PAL DVD's run just fine.

Apart from that , you could make a packet, if you can find a ps2 to buy , they're still in demand and up until recently , you couldn't legally take more than two out of the country at a time ( this may have been changed )

charge 600-700 quid , instantly double your money , schweetttt

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,275 ✭✭✭bugs

Shinji , dont be stupid, theres no way you can buy it for 350 , ( which in irish is a ****load of money anyway )
It retails in japan at 350 dollars , they're in short supply as is , and you're telling me that someone is selling them from 350 with 2 or 3 games and extra pads ( and a power pack , errrr wtf , power pack , most *normal* ppl would use a step down converter )
Whether you got this info yourself or have listened to some muppet , doesnt matter , its all ****** , its not profitable

I think your wrong too Rob. A friend of mine who works as a videogames journalist got one in the UK for £600. That sound more realistic to me.

    600-700 quid?

Good lord, now THAT is a rip-off.

Go to the UK and you can pick them up from specialist importers for 350, including 2 or 3 games and a second controller; AND the power pack.

We currently have two reporters out in E3. They've managed to grab a go on Microsoft's X-Box as well as on the Game Boy Advance. And they reckon both are good. Expect reports on the site when they get back while E3 coverage is daily at the minute.

We currently have a PS2 here at GI as as far as wer're concerned, its very, very overrated. Its just the same old stuff you'd expect from Sony. We're really hoping they have something decnt for the European launch. Not even Tekken Tag Tournament could light up our lives. Its just Tekken 3 with better graphics.

I wasn't very impressed with the PS2 when I played it. Tekken Tag seemed very lumbering and slow compared to Soul Calibur.

We've had a date confirmed for the UK launch of the PS2 in my shop, 26th October
    APPARENTLY

    that probably means next April.
    hehe smile.gif

I played four games, Street Fighter EX3, Tekken Tag Tournament, Ridge Racer 5 and Dead or Alive 2.

I thought SFEX3 was not great, Tekken Tag good, but just more of the same, Ridge Racer 5 pretty good, and Dead or Alive 2, excellent!

The date has been set as October 26th by Sony in the States, for a simultanious launch in the US and Europe, retailing at aroud £299(ish). But knowing that they are probably wrong, just before/after Christmas is probably more realistic.

Guys - trick is to find someone in Japan who will buy you one and bring it over for you. PSX2 + RR5 + Kessen + DoA2 + Extra Pad = 350 quid (sterling btw). My mistake, the power converter was actually extra - 25 quid in CEX.

I've since had a chance to grab a few extra games, including TTT (which is shockingly unimpressive). DoA2 is the only thing worth playing on the console right now, and even it isn't up there with Soul Calibur for playability.

    Ja,
    Rob

You're 100% right Rob. Hopefully Sony can have some decent titles for the European launch. Wipeout Fusion and The Getaway both look good. But Sony badly need a system of quality over quantity.

    Errr....

    Bugs....

around here, it's generally appreciated if you engage your brain BEFORE you start typing.

Firstly, DoA2 is a much more impressive game than the lacklustre and boring TTT. DoA2's environments, graphics and physics are simply more fun than the "boring square arena, same moves as before, move along, nothing to see here" Tekken Tag Tournament (the "tag tournament" of the name being the only innovative feature, and it's criminally underused in the game - Rival Schools on PSX is a perfect example of how to do this PROPERLY). As to your comment about "perving Japanese schoolgirls"... Yes, the girls in it are "well-endowed". Do you have a problem with this? None of them are "japanese schoolgirls", from what I can see. Perhaps we should do a nice fighting game featuring boys with bouncy crotches for you, eh?

X-Box was behind closed doors at E3. Some nice-looking stuff is being done for it, it'll be interesting to see how it does overall.

and yes... MGS2 looks utterly amazing. At last, a decent game for PS2! Wipeout Fusion looks good too... Hmmm, two good games, a 300 quid console. I'll get a UK one at launch anyway (but then again, I won't be paying for it), but I wonder if the rest of the world will feel the same...

Hmmmm engage my brain , i know i left the keys to my brain somewhere.

For a start , i've played and owned more fighting games than anyone i know .
I put alot more effort into playing them as well . DoA2's game play is less that your "lack-lustre" comment. Have a finite background isnt worth ****e. Don't start going on about realism now, having barriers and electric fenses and ring outs is prime categories for button bashing lucky players.
Tekken ( as i will found out this evening as its arrived ) in the arcade even outshined the movies i've seen of DoA2 and even the DC version is supposed to look better.

BTW , kasumi has a schoolgirl kit , i've played the game enough to learn most of the moves ( which took me all of 3 days in comparision to tekken taking , well , i still dont know all the moves )

Its parry system and throws and half assed idea's , looks like a rip off of so many other dire beat em ups that tried to be "different."
Grand, all well and good , have semi naked chicks , kept me amused while i played but thats it ! Its the mortal kombat of the nex-gen machines , amusing for a while , but ultimately wont pull you back to play some more.

I cant comment on the tag system in tekken on the ps2 yet . But having played hours on the arcade machine , i cant believe you can liken it to rival schools , dear god no!
Rival schools was awful, the tags where slow as hell and always preceeded by capcoms now annoying paused action , loadsa effects then big attack crap.
If tekken has a slower tag than this , then it really has fallen quite a way.
I have yet to see a game where you can tag with 2 characters 3 times and never have your oppenent touch the floor ( baek and hwoarwang , triple hunting hawks )
The special tag moves are damn cool, way better than rival schools or anything close to it!

I'm not exactly saying DoA2 is crap but its not something that i'd play and i consider myself a pretty good beat em up player and a pretty good judge of them.
You wont be seeing DoA2 over here when its released anyway, unimpressed with the way it looked in japan, tecmo are remaking the game for the X-box and i just checked dailyradar again ( who were given backdoor to everything ) and no the X-box did not show itself at the show, there was a press shown demo of music programs but nothing in the line of games ( which isnt surprising since no one is currently developing for them nor has any developers signed on )

And anyone found buying kessen will have to receive a smack ,god damn that game looks bad

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,275 ✭✭✭bugs

Please DOA2 , wtf , that game is meant ( as was the first ) for lame players who like to perv on japanese school kids and this is nothing different. The fighting style and game physics are crap ( this is coming from someone who plays too much fighting games , arcade and home )
I havent played TTT yet ( cos my ****ing ps2 hasnt arrived ) , but if its even a patch on the arcade machine , then thats fine with me. The problem most ppl have with it is they never bother to go deep enough into it and label it as crap. I'd say with fairly high surity that i can beat everyone whose played tekken at some time or other , hehehe Challenge!

Dont know who posted this above , something about reporters and playing the X-box , how exactly did you manage that then ted , considering microsoft were laughed at cos they didnt have the system there . All they had were some video wall demo's and posters.
    Are these "spechul" reporters ?

Ps2's launch is ****e anyway , same as psx's launch , but from what i've read and watced from movies at E3 , it has some tasty titles on the way , hotest of which being metal gear solid 2 : sons of liberty , seen the movies of these yet ? WOW!

You need to learn the words "in my opinion". Some manners would be nice too.

I'm not even going to bother correcting your "facts", you do that quite nicely yourself by stating in the same paragraph that Tecmo are developing for the X-Box, and then that nobody is (Neither of these things are true, the Temco rumour is just that, a rumor, and X-Box has lots of interesting developers signed on).

X-Box was at E3. It wasn't on show to the press, it was on show to developers. E3 is a trade show, not everything there is on show to press people, most of it is for other developers and publishers.

    Ja,
    Rob

Perhaps you could turn you own " opinion " in on yourself.
FACT- the X-box now has one prospective developer , at E3 they had a ****ing press conference explaining that they had no third party support and didn't expect any due to the fact that there machine isn't finished and not due to be released for some 18 months yet.
You are the only one still whacking on about the X-box at the show. It wasn't there, theres no developer off shot , it just wasn't there.
Read the press releases you dolt , they haven't even finished the base unit , they cut a demo of a music program of some sort that they threw together and that was all they had at the show bar the previous robot demo and some additions to it.

For all your opinions ( which you obviously have no idea about , you've just read off some site ) i'm amazed that you haven't bothered your large ass to read anything that was actually said at the show.
These are not my opinions, as far as the X-box goes i don't have one, fact being , it wasn't at the show , so says microsoft, or do you know better ?

As for tekken , well you play DoA , nuff said
( or more to the point , you probably don't )

Bugs, I think you're getting a little out of line. Everyone has their own opinion and you can't attack people for theirs.

Fcats are in and I think you'll find that 90% of people have been dissappointed with the PS2 launch including myself.

    Noel Brady www.game-ireland.com

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,488 ✭✭✭SantaHoe

Well 72% of people including myself would agree that 91% of all statistics are utter bullshìt, and are made up on the spot by people who have no real evidence to support their supposed 'facts'.

    facts shmacts

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 127 ✭✭Noel Brady

I realise that most stats are propaganda but I think if you order a Japanese PS2 and buy some games, your reaction will be exactly the same. All Sony have released with the console are mindless sequels that do nothing whatsoever to push the boundaries of gaming. Also, there excuse for not having an internally built modem is ridiculous. Facts are they merely want Sega and Nintendo to test the online waters first. If anything else though, the Japanese launch proved Sony are not invincible like so many thought.

I think you may find that 99.9999999999999% of the population couldn't give a flying fu<k at a rolling doughnut about the PS2 at this point in time. We'll see the fu<ker when it's out here in October, until then, can you all please shut the fu<k up?

October....... in ireland........ not likely, probably hit over here nearer christmas. Irelands always a month behind, on everything!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,275 ✭✭✭Shinji

Sony still claim October. I think they'll probably make it in mid-November, but they'll have all of about 3 machines to sell, given the US shortages smile.gif

Frankly bugs - your attitude is pretty appalling. Someone who disagrees with you isn't someone ignorant, it's someone with a different opinion. Where do your facts on E3 come from? Were you there? No. Were you corresponding constantly by phone and email with people who WERE there in order to be able to write up coverage on the show? Funny enough, I doubt it. Hey - guess what? I was.

    Ja,
    Rob

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,275 ✭✭✭bugs

Had the convenience of knowing 3 ppl that went to E3 , ppl that would have gotten into at least some of the main attractions , which i somehow doubt you did.
    Disagreement , what ?
The only thing i disagree with is the fact that ppl are talking about the X-box being there , no one i know saw it , if it was behind closed doors , granted , they wouldnt have been high up enough to see it anyway.
Fact being , it wasnt there, there is no mock up of the machine made , the evidence i have is the transcipt of the microsoft press talk that they had there and the journo that was there detailed what they had , what they said and what they didnt have , the X-box in this case.
Its about the least important machine i know of anyway , it probably wont be out for 2 years or more and will be indefinetly upgraded as microsoft make it sound more and more like a PC , i have a Pc , i dont want another one.
I probably do have an appauling atitude, i really dont care , public boards arent for ppl to play house and happy families , if you dont like my opinion , tell me to fu<k off, if you're right thats fine.
I know very little of all the vast amount of stuff that went on at E3 , but i do know that the X-box wasn't there, its not either my opinion or hear-say , microsoft said it themselves!
