My computer freezing

    This has been ahppening a few weeks now but really bugging me now.

    I click on my computer and it takes over a minute to display c drive etc:

    same when extracting a file in winace or winrar even dloading files once i get the fiel browser it locks up and takes an age to display the c drive etc:

    really getting on my tits now.

    40 gb HD with 2 GB free space but its always been near 2gb free so its not that.

    Have minimum services running on XP Pro.

    How long since a full defrag?

    Yiou don't have thousands of IE Favorites do you?

    run diskeeper defrags every day i think or there abouts.

    Norton disk doctor in system tools 2003 says everything is great.
    And dont have lots of favourites about 80 websites.

    Also the address bar in IE takes an age also to open.

    I would call 80 favourites a lot :p

    Try clearing out your history and limiting the size of your temp. internet files to about 50 megs. If all else fails, click on your temp internet files folder and just hit delete. Then reboot. Windows should reinitialise it emptyish.

    yah XP has a bug which for some reaosn hasnt been fixed the file setting is 2mb but it allows it to go over it.


    still happens tho :(

    How much ram have u got, and how much does windows report as free without any apps runnin?

    Have u had the HDD long? mite be an idea to install another one and transfer some of ur data over..

    HD is 18 months old.
    Western Digital 40gb

    512 133 ram

    XP is running on it since it came out its only happened latley nothing new installed have tonnes of "check your system apps"
    All say everything is fine.
