HD Acess Read/Write Times Dramatically Dropped

Performance on my secondary channel where my 80gig udma 100 hd is attached has dropped unbelievably as in: i should be getting at least 22mb a second which my udma 66hd is getting on the other channel but im getting now 8-9mb on this channel.. i used to be up at 33-38 i rememeber ive tried the obvious defrag.. backuped…

ive tried the obvious defrag..
backuped data,destroyed file system and full recreate of logical partition..
no difference

is hard drive just showing lifetime..
its had 2 years of heavy usage now i must say
