Im not much of a single man, much prefer album buying. However, there is occasionally an extremly good reason for getting a single....a fantastic b side. There doesnt seem to be quite as many decent b sides released any more, or maybe im just getting old. Anyhow, what are your favorite b sides?

My favorite would have to be toss up between:

How Come You Dont Call Me Anymore by Prince b side to 1999
    and
Irresistable Bitch b side to Lets Pretend We're Married also by Prince.
Both of those where released in 1982

Aneurysm from Nirvana's teen spirit single is my number one.

That version of it is so much better than the one that appears on incesticide.

off the top of my head

Jeff Buckley - Kangaroo (studio version, off the Last Goodbye or Grace singles?) .. probably one of the best examples of the connection he and the band had together.
Spiritualized - Rock 'n Roll (think it was off Stop your crying)
and while nirvana are mentioned.. School (i think twas off Come as you are)

apologies if my memory sucks :)

Pumpkins just made great B-sides full stop! They were a band with quality in depth. Their whole Mellon Collie collection was almost as good as the album itself and should definetly be checked out by anyone who likes the band. I made a 20 track collection of all their singles b-sides from their 5 mellon collie singles and I still listen to it to this day.

    1 said sadly
    2 ugly
    3 believe
    4 cherry
    5 meladori magpie
    6 rotten apples
7 medillia of the gray skies
    8 jupiters lament
    9 blank
    10 tonight reprise
    11 god
    12 mouths of babes
    13 tribute to johnny
    14 maquis in spades
    15 pennies
    16 the last song
    17 the aeroplane flies high
    19 transformer
    19the bells
    20 my blue heaven

    check em out people! :)

/me hauls out and dusts off 7-inch and CD single collection....

'Sparkle' - Seal, b-side of 'Crazy', nice bouncy little track which sounds really different to everything else on his first album

'Salome' - U2, b-side of 'Even Better Than The Real Thing', there's also a great dance mix of this by Farley & Heller which is even better (sorry!)

'Taxi' - the other side of 'Hippy Chick' by Soho (the one with the guitar sample stolen from 'How Soon Is Now' - The Smiths and the two twins with odd matching dreadlock and shaved combo hairstyles, anyone else remember them?)

'Come to Me' (Black Dog Productions Mix) - Bjork, on the CD single of 'Big Time Sensuality' - although I love the original version this one is also amazing, really ambient and floaty

'A Case of You' - Tori Amos, on the 'Cornflake Girl' CD single (cover of the Joni Mitchell song, very well covered)

Can't think of any more right now.

it's really food for thought how many people are mentioning the pumpkins in replies to this, but nobody's touched on the older b-sides, collected on the album "pisces iscariot". Plume is probably one of my favourite pumpkins songs (up there with hummer) taken from the I Am One single, and there's loads more like an acoustic version of dancing in the moonlight by thin lizzy from the Disarm Heart (or smile? i forget) single and soothe from.. i don't know what.

It has to be 'Talk Show Host' off the Radiohead Street Spirit single. 'Permanent Daylight' deserves a mention too - class song.

Crazy! The first song that came into my head was Medelia of The Grey Skies when i saw this thread. And its already been mentioned twice!

Or Landslide, which was on disarm i think...

Woman Like A Man off the Canonball single... Damien Rice is savage too.

Damnit, Medellia is mine, mine! ;]

Pisces Iscariot is amazing, considering it's an album of B-Sides, they're just about all brilliant songs. Topic is Favourite B-Side, not Best B-Side though :]
