This is probably gonna seem like a stoopid question but I want to start getting certified by cisco, however I don't know which cert to start with, I have a fair bit of networking knowledge but I would'nt mind starting from the beginning to fill in the holes in my knowledge.....also where in dublin can I do/apply for these exams????

The CCNA is the first Cisco cert....you need to have it before you can sit any of the others. Sylvan Prometric administer the exam which you can take at several centres around the country.

    www.2test.com or 1800-626104

Good luck with it....its not too difficult if you have a bit of background.

    Thats incorrect,

You can sit any of the Cisco exams without the CCNA certification. If you are good at routing, switching, remote access or support individually you can sit that exam on it's own. If you pass all the CCNP exams you are not CCNP certified until you pass the CCNA exam. In fact you can even sit the CCIE exam without any other exam if you are really ****-hot ;)

Look at the Cisco website for updates as they keep happening, i.e. the routing exam for CCNP now includes IS-IS which was not previously there, which amounts to, on average, 5-6 questions on the actual exam.

Also there are new certifications appearing now and then, i.e. CCIP.

Ah...right...so you can sit the exams but get no certification until you've sat the prior requirements. Thats handy, thanks.

    right....so start with ccna????

If you have a fair grasp of networking then yes....start with the CCNA. There are plenty of books available but I won't recommend any as its almost three years since I sat it. (I'm currently studying for my CCNP)

If you want to spend a few quid then I'd get/borrow a transcender sample exam cd.

Looks very sweet, think I'm gonna do it that way. Seems their locator thingy is down right now so it's a bit hard getting details.

Good good. Ive taken the previous exam (march last year) in IRC workstation training in the same environment except we used an old windows testing program.

I know they changed the exam _just_ after I did mine to include some flash sections so I guess doing them through a browser is the only way of doing them now.
