This may have been asked b4 if so im sorry, i just cant bear trudging thru the huge thread to find it.

Is there *any* possibility of you releasing a (possibly more expensive or changing on ur current offer) flat rate product for offpeak with *more* than 150hours?

It just seems to me, that for instance, NTL's free-weekend product alone (which i am on) offers 192 hours per month, for a terrible service with no real cust support except from idiots who wouldnt know what a computer was if it slapped em, not to mention waiting on hold for 45 mins and then being cut off,
and i for one would be tempted off that if you could?

    Barry

well there's strong rumors that flat rate will be real in the next month or two, so utv will more than likely offer full flat rate when that happens iswell. But then again, you never know what the irish government and eircom are going to do

this was asked a lot in the huge other utvip thread... the answer is plainly, no. what would you use it on anyway? utv is too slow for most online games..

    Actually, Dahamsta is right,

the reason i asked is coz I am a wheelchair user who uses the net every day for a long time to communicate with friends here and abroad, and I also moderate on some boards and have to check those several times a day.

Also my partner is american, (we met online and he has been here three years now) and his parents are still in the US, so we use IRC to keep in touch with his familly each week, and as anyone who lives away from home knows, those chats can go on for many hours :)
Why didnt *I* move to the USA instead? because the USA dosent allow u to become a citizen if u are disabled. And medical care is extortionate. yes id have better net access but there are rational limits as to how far i will go to get it ;)

My partner still cannot believe the service issues in this country, and the prices and caps involved in dsl, (screams of "I will NOT be capped!" can be heard here every day lol) :)

I was one of the people who got ousted from the "surf NOLimits" lie that esat told, now im stuck with a "service" from NTHell that borders on abusive, i spent many years working as an equality lecturer in the corporate, community and arts sectors, and have travelled all over, and never have i come across a service provider who thinks so little of its customers (with of course the possible exception of eircon). I am spending so much on phone and net bills that i cannot afford to save for a laptop that i sorely need!

Now, I am 25, and because of numerous health difficulties can only work from home, and can i find a job that i can do from home? No, I am very highly qualified, I have degrees in Adult Psych and Behavioural Sci, many years experience in many sectors, and all this is useless to me, partially because of the ignorance of many potential employers that have not been allowed see the internet as anything other than unreliable and expensive.

There ya go, theres my reasons and my rant ;)

It’s the cases such as yours that are the most damming of the on going incompetence in this shambles of a country. If more people such as you were known to the public at large then perhaps there may be more wide scale changes. Although the level to which some telco(s) will go to secure their profits above all other considerations are truly astounding even in the face of public disapproval (which there isn't any of in Ireland, ahhh isn't the rat cute).
The very existence of a site like Eircom Tribunal speaks, in my opinion, volumes about our inept, greedy and useless incumbent. For a person such as yourself who is intelligent and well educated it is an especially intolerant situation since you reliance on fast cheap net access is so great.

I actually find UTVip to be grand for gaming, it adds maybe 20 to my ping on jolt servers which isnt the end of the world.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,680 ✭✭✭Tellox

thats nice,it adds a few hundred to mine, most tfc servers I play on are now about 500ms, lowers to 400ms on the fastest, emptiest servers, and that makes it completly unplayable

switch to netsmart from esatbt tizlox, much better ping for games

Any advance on the existing 150 hours (in particular business hours) will probably require FRIACO.

We are continually looking at product development for additions to the UTVip product range. As soon as we have any viable supplements we will let you know, but like everyone else we are concentrating on trying to work towards an affordable FRIACO and broadband products, which may supercede any further UTVip development.

Won't UTVip make use of FRIACO when it comes out?
