After all the stuff about advertising in the community forums I did not want to upset someone by posting some new company.

Theres no problem telling us who they are, especially if someone asked for them :) If you work there, just say that as well and there won't be a problem. The problems that boards are having with advertising is unsolicited spam postings, which this is not :)

Incidentally I should also add that I find the price of second hand parts very expensive in Ireland, both in places like buy and sell and the shops that I listed. Generally I personally would source stuff like this through the forums on some of the UK sites. Even with the exchange rate and postage it nearly always works out cheaper.

Overclockers isn't as good as it used to be though. But of course there is an element of risk and trust involved which is why theres this list.

Which is brilliant idea. You'll find lots of people put their hexus rating in there signatures. Very handy. I've been doing it a while so if you want any pointers drop me an email.

You are spot on about Ireland being a rip off for second hand puters and parts ... to quote dawn computers:
    Gateway P111 600mhz,10gb hdd,128mb sdram Cd rom,floppy drive,sound,56K v90 modem, 4mb Ati Rage video ,10/100mbit Lan keyboard,scroll mouse, speakers,15" gateway monitor, 90 day warranty on all hardware,Tower Atx case
The cost of this 3 or 4 year old puter? ... 495 euro ...and I think that that excludes vat ... for that price you could get a fairly good DIY system ... gah ... chancers:mad:

(PS there is no mention of OS there either ... prolly not included)

laptops are quite possibly the worst ripoff second hand in Ireland. You'll get good deals on desktops from private sellers, obviously avoid the rip-off merchants like the plague.

No, that price does include VAT. While it does seem a tad expensive, I have gotten quite a bit of stuff off this guy in the past, and the prices were good - It's worth calling in to some of these people, as they sometimes have stuff for sale that they don't advertise on their sites.

I used to work nearby and call in from time to time and they often have special offers which aren't bad. Depends what they get in really. The guy is sound enough too. They do repairs and things like that too. Though its still cheap get the stuff from the UK.

Shows how far we have fallen when people consider that price for that age of a PC as being good value ...
I would ask that you consider that the PC probably came from an office environment where it may have clocked up a lot of use, with a 30 day warranty on most of his stuff it doesnt give you much in the line of a warm fuzzy feeling...

You could almost put a new machine together for that price, and it would have a 12 month warranty too!

thing is laptops that are bing used in ireland up to now were got for one purpose and usualy for reps or large compainies that only needed 2 r 3 programs to run on it for orders . since there was no need for a faster/better one they would never think of upgrading .

have to admit im going to be the same with mine 30 gig hdd and a 1 gig p3 in it will keep me happy on the train watching movies making webpages when im bored ive no real reason to upgrade so in about 5 -6 years ill probably sell it
