Floppy Drive causing PC to freeze up?

Hmph, every time I try to access the FDD, the whole system freezes up and I have to unplug it at the mains to turn it off. Ctrl+Alt+Del etc don't work. It's a ~3-year old Mitsumi FDD, Abit KD7 mobo, Win2k. Any ideas on how to fix0r it? Apart from buying a new 'un of course... Ta...

checked everything is plugged in securely onto the motherboard etc ?
all setup in bios?

mine does that but thats because my FDD is only attached when i need it
