TCD server files

    Anyone know if there is an mp3 folder on the tcd server. I heard a rumour that on campus residents place their downloaded mp3s here. Is this true? It would be handy if it was.

    I just had google spider all pages on the tcd.ie server searching for the word or directory "mp3".

    Heres what it found...

    Dont know whether theres a preverbial treasure trove but it looks like theres some stuff of interest :)

    There are no public treasures. Belief me if they existed they would be found in HOURS and conciently shut down pronto.

    About a month ago an email was forwarded to everyone on campus on behalf of the Irish Record Industry reguarding piracy and file-sharing. My Class Rep was luck not to get caught distributing copies of MS Visual Studio to the entire year ;)

    uh here's a clue...join netsoc.tcd.ie and you'll be enlightened :)

    Ooh and the maths.tcd.ie server too. I remember seeing a lot of mp3s hosted there before.

    /me types reply whilst listening to MP3 hosted *somewhere* on the tcd.ie doman :D

    There was a big folder of shared MP3s and DIVX on some guy from res' PC last year.

    Are there fairly hard firewalls in ucd does anyone know?
    I wanna go there next year and my ability to play cs would be a makor factor. Is it possible?

    the thing is, *if* you had a large collection of mp3s/etc..,

    you'd be a bit of a goon to make it publicly known.
    as no-one wants pesky undergrads using all the bandwidth

    yeah - join netsoc.

    Ahem.

    Unless they're your own work, or you somehow own the copyright to them or have permission to have them in your a/c mp3s are banned by netsoc.

    from the aup
    Users may not store any pornographic, stolen or otherwise illegal material in any form whatsoever using any services provided by DUIS. This includes but is not limited to copyrighted material such as music, videos, software and books.

    and the waup has similar clauses for members websites.

    at one stage the cs department did have permission from imro to have a large central music server as part of a research project.
