Does anyone know where I could get a family tree type diagram, or something similar, of all the major labels and their subsidiaries?
    Showing the links between them.

    Thanks

Feck! Thats an alarming list, hardly anyone is an independent anymore unless you count "boutique"/bedroom CDR machine
    outfits!

And when you add the list owned by Sony, AOL Time Warner etc etc...it gets bigger and bigger..and scarily smaller in terms of diversity of ownership.

Its called a cartel, some say it affects the quality of music that is released and price of cd's sold at your local. Of course they must be dreaming :D:D:D

Affects the quality of the music? Perhaps... most of the smaller subsidaries act on their own, albeit with a restrained budget and a specific target audience in mind... this may lead to the situation where they are very unwilling to take on more original and non-pigeon holed acts.

Anyway.. the only other main ones I'd know would be that Warner own Warner Records, Atlantic Records and Elektra, Atlantic being the more mainstream of the three, than Warner.. and with Elektra sitting just slightly more leftfield again, Elektra (afaik) was actually founded by a talent scout from Atlantic in the early/mid-60s who got extremely pissed off with their constant demands and decided to form his own company ;)

Sony own Columbia as well, but Columbia releases are nearly always marked Sony/Columbia these days anyway.

Thanks for the information Kali. I'll just have to do something with a diagram myself. Independent labels is something else, but as you said there's a lot. Again, thanks.
