I started in college in sep. But what is really weird no one in my class socialises or even drinks??? I am in a small class but everyone at the end of the day with classes wants to go home. Am I out of fashion or is this reality for many students in Dublin????

How small is your class? Are you in a small college as well? I was in IT Blanchardstown the first year it opened and it was AWFUL, like being at school, the place was a 20 min walk from anything, and the only pub near the place was in one of the dodgiest estates in Dublin (Corduff!) so no one really socialised much after college.

Did you go to any of the events at freshers week? They usually help you get to know your class better. Do you actually know everyone in your class well? Maybe they do go out and you just don't know about it. Get to know them better. You go to college in the city centre, you're surrounded by pubs and clubs!

My last year in college it was the same I was in a class with mostly mature students and they only ever spoke to me when they wanted a question answered, alot of them commuted too which made it understandable as to why they never went out, luckily it wasnt my first year in the college so I already had friends and stuff but it would have been really ahrd for anyone to attempt to make friends in that sort of environment

I've heard of classes like that. It's a terrible affliction.

I recommend you cut your losses and find another class to hang around with.

They have to go out for RAG week anyway (second best week of college for freshers, best week for everyone else). If they don't then you know that they really are strange.

I never go anywhere with people from my class either. I usually hang around with friends that i've made outside of class.
My class is tiny this year. there was about 11 in it this morning but now there are only 6.

Which DIT location are you in?

Aungier St was a pretty sociable college last year. Everyone used to know each other. Now you don't see the same people from one end of the day to the next (Much Much Bigger College Now.

Or maybe I'm just getting old (*Now going to check for grey hairs*).

I was speaking to some of the SU crowd today.

We aren't having a RAG Week this year but rather RAG Days spread over a number of weeks. Somebody stop the bloody slaughter!!!

Also I don't think many DIT's will disagree that the Palace was the social centre of Southside DIT's last year. Now It's closed and we have no home.

Palace is open again, but now it looks small and ****e.

The new joint is called the PictureHouse.

You think it's ****e because they want students to think its ****e. They don't want them us in there anymore. Too much hassle apparently.

Its small now but they are still building. Heard some of the plans. Going to be deadly when its finished.

I had the same problem, sort of. My class is divided into wee factions who all do their own thing. They don't really go out as a group at all, and to be honest, they are mostly little D4 shytes anyway. I joined one or two clubs, met some people, met their friends and it snowballed from there really. My advice, if you wanna meet like-minded people, joins some clubs ur interested in.

There have to be college societies you could join in order to meet new people. If your classmates don't go out join a couple of Socs (or Clubs) and get to know some people through them.

Yo - this is a thread about unsociable classmates, of whom i'm sure you're one. Get off your computer and get down the pub!

Ha.... try being a postgrad in a college you didn't undergrad in.
In-college social life is virtual non-existant.
