the ncad give out leaflets on the sort of things that they want to see in portfolios, so try to pick one up if you can.
i think they're mostly looking for a kind of project that shows how you started with an idea and experiment with it and progress etc. show contrast within that area of say natural and man made or something.

dont know if thta helps at all
